Had to subscribe. Your review covered more real world conditions that will be shooting and very impressed with the results. I know it takes loads of prep work for a video and your work is appreciated. I have been tossing back and forth for my a6000 the sigma 18-50 and this one as they both have valued considerations, but with this video and the recent price reduction to $699 the difference has narrowed. Hello, This lens is for the APS-C sensor sized crop factor cameras encase you are unaware. So it's not going to work with full frame cameras without sever vignetting or in crop factor mode. Not sure which camera you are using, but the FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Lens is a full frame e-mount lens. Thanks, Jay

Great review! Thank you for the information. I own this lense with the A6400 and use it primarily for video. I used to run and run with the 18-105 but upgraded due to the 2.8. I need better low light performance. My second channel has a lot of run and gun style film making and i use this lense in both handheld and tripod/monopod scenarions. I see a lot of people asking about video and stabalization. This lense is fantastic. I handhold a lot of my videos and run this on a camera without IBIS........its fantastic. I do have steady hands and have a lot of practice with hand shooting. I use a strap and a handle but the results are quite good. If you paired this with IBIS, i would imagine no issues at all. My one complain is manual zoom for video. I really miss my 18-105 for that reason. Its almost impossible to handhold and do a smooth zoom. I try but you have to be a ninja and not breath. Anyways if you want to see examples, my second YT channel has all of the latest videos shot with it. I never tried it on my gimbal....I dont see a reason to try. Just use a prime or a powerzoom. I would hate having to rebalance everytime i zoom with this.

Thanks Scrappy for sharing your thoughts and experience :) I agree that 18-105mm was super easy to use and zoom while hand holding! Twisting a zoom is really hard to do and maintain stability. Using a gimbal is just another level, although it is not needed to your point depending on what kind of footage you need. I only use the gimbal when I need to, because the extra size and weight sucks compared to just holding the camera. You have a really nice looking main channel and I will try to find your other channel to see some of this run and gun footage ;) Jay

Hi Robert and no I'm not going to do another review of this lens. However, it is a great lens for video though I would say. It has a manual zoom which is not as good as a power zoom like the E 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens, but the optics are killer. Walking and recording won't be the best unless using a gimbal, but you can still get some great recordings, especially if using a tripod.

Were the HDR photos using post processed stacking or one of the built in a6xxx features? Great video btw! Would be glad to hear your thoughts on the 18-300 too

They were post processed in HDR Efex Pro so I shot -2,0,+2 backed Raw quality shots with the A7C. Also, thanks for the kind words and I will try to get the new Tamron lenses asap ;)

Well I reviewed the 16-55mm Lens here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXeyln6oepWFbZI and I can tell you the Tamron is the better lens in my opinion for the money. It has more range, less distortion, is just as sharp, and has Optical stabilization built in!

Great question and I don't really know yet for sure. However, based on the other Sigma DC DN lenses, it should be outstanding. It does not have Optical stabilization and it has less range on both ends... It is much smaller, lighter weight, and cheaper than the Tamron though.. Based on what I know so far I would still rather have the Tamron although it is a bit heavy....

Thanks for the video. If we have the Sony a 6400 (does not have IBIS), what settings within the camera do we need to enable in order to take advantage of VC in the Tamron lens. Thank you

You should have to do nothing, because the camera has that turned on by default, but if you want to check it go here: MENU → (Camera Settings2) → [SteadyShot] → ON I hope that helps and all the best, Jay

I have an old a6300 and am contemplating this tamron 17-70mm vs the sigma 28-70mm C lens. The tamron has additional range in the wider end and VC which is a huge plus since a6300 does not have IBIS. But the Sigma might make more sense if I intend to switch to a full frame down the line. But how would the two lenses differ in terms of image quality?

Very similar image quality I would say based on my experience with the Tamron and newer Sigma lenses. So, it really depends on if you plan on getting a full frame body I would say.... Otherwise go with the 17-70mm for the range and weight advantage ;)

I have that lens whit a 6600 Sony and I don’t know what I am doing wrong I am not a pro maybe the setting I am using are wrong but my pictures not coming sharp can you share some settings

If your pictures are not sharp, you either have the focus in the wrong spot, or your shutter speed is to slow resulting in a blurry photo. I would recommend using wide area focus and Auto ISO, which should give you a fast enough shutter speed for a sharp shot. If not, you can raise your ISO to a higher number to speed up the shutter speed for a sharper shot.

I plan to buy the Sony zv e10 and want to use it just to record family gatherings like Christmas/ kid birthdays and kids sports. Would this be a good lens for that? Or do you recommend two different lenses? I have no problem buying more than one. I would also use it for taking pictures. I have zero experience with this stuff.

I did not try the lens on the gimbal although I have no reason to believe it would not work great. I did do some video testing in the lab on the focus and it's accurate and pretty much silent as well.

The Sony is an optically superior lens. It holds its own against primes. That's why it is nearly three times the price of the Tamron but the Tamron is more flexible and better value for money unless you are a professional photographer that requires the extra image quality.

Sharpness is close, but distortion of the Sony is significantly worse, although the camera fixes most of it if you have those features enabled. For video the distortion is corrected automatically by the camera. 18-105mm has all internal zoom though which is really nice and that butter smooth powerzoom feature which is killer for video... Also Tamron has faster f/2.8 max aperture....
