My Dad was on it. He and his best friend switched positions ten minutes before it fell. It fell towards and on top of his friend. Killing him. My Dad broke his back, got a nasty scar on his leg, and was buried for over an hour in the logs. Thankfully, he has recovered almost completely since.

I was at stack the night it happened. I had just left 10 minutes before it fell. I didn't see it collapse. One of the victims, Bryan McClain lived on the deck below me and loved to say my foreign last name every time he saw me.

Thank you for posting this. I was in Florida at flight school and couldn't get there to help...I also didn't get to see any of the coverage of the rescue effort or the memorial, so it means a lot to be able to see it now. Never forget. Fightin' Texas Aggie Band B-Co '96

Crushed by heavy logs. A terrible way to lose your life before you actually get started living it.

The craziest thing is the Ray Bowen kept his job for another 5 years following this. Trustees should have ousted him immediately. When a lack of oversight, allowing underage drinking and incredibly unsafe practices kill 12 the person at the helm should have been in prison not the President's office.

Hopefully the one modification will be the deep dive into the cause of the collapse, according to the team that investigated it - the culture of arrogance and ignorance. Not something A&M wants to be known for.
