I drive down this street every Thursday and it is like a ghost town sadly. The butcher shop is now a Chinese takeaway. Averills farm shop is now an Indian restaurant.

Is the castle worth a visit?

Difficult to say as personally I haven't been for over 20 years, the castle is not very big compared to others, but I know they have made some improvements to the castle displays etc since my last visit.

It's worth a visit from the point of view that Tamworth used to be capital of the most powerful Anglo-Saxon kingdom in Britain in about 900 AD.

This is church street Tamworth . Its now a mass of immigrants with shops such as a turkish barbers but the rest being run down , uncared for take aways . The old folks still use the co-op but the rest is a lost part of town .

The latest census showed Tamworth was still about 95% white British.
