Good win, Elias is a very good player but he is a hard person to cheer for as he is always questioning the ref calls and he always looks grumpy.

I’m a huge proponent of the commentators on Squash TV, and Joey is top of that list for his wit and light hearted banter. Generally love it. But what is going on with the background conversations? I can’t tell if they mean to talk into the mic but forget to unmute it, so it sounds like background noise through their partner’s mic? Or are they meaning to mute and not doing it right? I’m not sure, but there’s a lot of it. I love these full matches during the tourney but hate to see the somewhat unprofessional background noise during a potential showcase for the sport. Good match. Went as expected with Elias’ class and Tandon just not having the firepower to threaten him.

I’m a former audio engineer, and these issues have been going on with SquashTV’s productions for ages, they really need to get some more experienced people in. Problems I have heard: -Highly variable RMS levels between commentators (mics not EQ’d or compressed correctly for each individuals voice - seems arbitrary on every occasion) -Insufficient gating as you mention -Court mics picking up too much “foot squeak” or “foot thud” vs ball sounds. Probably wrong mics config or audio not being “produced” after (tools like iZo RX can completely remove squeak without compromising other audio etc) - distortion on mics from shouts at exciting points (incorrect gain limiting thresholds set) -Commentary recorded to same tracks as court sounds (makes highlights cuts very weird) - these should be curated entirely separately for the final production of an upload. -Lack of normalisation for overall production volume level. Some videos are quiet some really loud. -Not a technical issue, but there’s a lack of professional commentator discipline sometimes - e.g speaking over each other, or not thinking *before* speaking to ensure a point is concise and clear (don’t try to think about what you want to say *while* are actually saying it, because then the listener is having to live through that!) There are similar issues with video, whereby they upload in 50fps, but the footage itself contains only 25-30 unique frames per second, which is basically conning the viewer and making a mockery of KZbin’s quality settings. This has actually gotten worse over the last few years. If they want to entice people to pay for this directly on their site, they need to up their game with all this stuff. It’s currently still below the quality of many other sports, and certainly vs mainstream broadcasters.
