Very enjoyable viewing thanks Les. Those slips were very well controlled, especially the last one, finding its feet and then blasted up the bank, great!!!

Great video, Les. The shots around 6:00 in were great... loved the Norman tower and old town backdrop.

Thanks 👍 I thought it right to include the cathedral tower. Hard to get the other mediaeval buildings overlooking the line as trees mask the view

Late on Parade, (again), but thanks! Tangmere got away really well, not what I'd call a serious slip (or slips). With that load, greasy rail, and drag from the curve, that was extremely well done by the crew. Thats a great shot of the bank up and the falling away lines to the left, not many places where you can see that disparity on elevation with broadly parallel tracks

Thanks for watching. Its been interesting to compare Braunton departing with Tangmere. Braunton hardly slipped at all!

@@LeslieGilpinRailways Yes, no surprise there, Bullied's original chain drive gear and fast acting reverser (for its supposed original mixed traffic role) were from reports not exactly renowned for easy progressive control or even knowing where the gear actally was set when starting. The many years later rebuild programme dumped those features, for starters. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Another reason to praise the crew of Tangmere for their handling of the beast! Allegedly Tangmere was not one of the better ones as built anyway. Does make for some spectacular visuals when pulling hard though, "The Volcano" tag is quite apt. Though don't expect to see much clear scenery when riding behind it! 😉

Nice one, Les. You really captured Tangmere's wheel slip extremely well. The crew dealt with it expertly. The new location was great too.

Nice view of the Black 5's arriving. I was thinking of going to watch from there with steam not often arriving from the North but had met someone on the platform. A good day out with plenty to see
@LeslieGilpinRailways9 ай бұрын
It was a good day I agree. Its not a perfect view looking north as the masts get in the way - but a rarity for steam

Did they leave the headboard on the 5s then? Nice departure by Tangmere, good to see the diesel driver restrained himself from opening the power handle

It's rare for the diesel to push unless requested.

What does a flashing red signal mean
@LeslieGilpinRailways9 ай бұрын
I realise what you mean - I believe its a faulty signal!
@grahamallen19709 ай бұрын
at around 9m27s a few wrong side signal failures on CE406signal red-black-red -black etc please forward video to network rail for investigations. some form of track circuit failure/point detection fault
@LeslieGilpinRailways9 ай бұрын
That would be difficult as CE406 is three aspect. and is showing Stop from the Goods lines. 6K05 had Yellow from correct signal from Up Down Newcastle Line
@grahamallen19709 ай бұрын
The other signal had returned to danger after the loco had passed the proceed aspect then ce406 due to the undiagnosed fault with signal it was in a intermittent fault mode....Trust me I'm a rail worker for 34 years the signal should not be preforming in that manner....I will report it to network rail my self, just thought you might of got some form of recognition from NR for finding fault
@LeslieGilpinRailways9 ай бұрын
@@grahamallen1970 I forwarded your observation to a network rail friend who is a shift manager in the psb.

@@LeslieGilpinRailways that's Brill tar very much... I'll sleep better now! Will you update hear what he says? Keep up the video recordings.
@LeslieGilpinRailways9 ай бұрын
HAving seen other recordings I've made, its the camcorder not the signal! I've had a similar effect on one of the principal signals in the station. I put it down to the 'interference' between the signalling circuit at 50 (?) Hz and my camcorder having a variable frame rate (automatically set by the camcorder). Most of the time signals appear solid but just every so often they appear to phase in and out. Its the same when I film the customer information boards.
