Chico is making it more complicated than it really is! Of course the man has to know just exactly where the woman is. He is doing all the directing. She is reacting. Leader and Follower. But I guess you are aiming at the tango "very inexperienced." What alternative does the woman have to get around that axis when the man is standing like a sentinel except to take the steps that she does as displayed? It's logical.
