Chatrapati shivaji fought for his people not for the nation. He was against mughals that's all. At the time of Shivaji mughals were also indians. They were here from the time of babur. They had lived here for generations. But the british were the real villains. They never saw indians as their own , they looted india and took all wealth to britain. Don't forget during our first war of independence 1857 rani laxmi bai, tantia tope etc fought the war against british colonials under the leadership of bahadurshah zafar the mughal emperor. So don't connect Chatrapati Shivaji with our nations freedom fight. 50 years after his death of course Marathas had fought against british.

I have read original letters of Shivaji maharaj , Kondhana was called Sihgad at least 7 years before this battle. And after his death Shivaji Maharaj said Ek gad aala pan ek gad gela ( one fort won and one lost) . In this battle Marathas were outnumbered and started running, Tanhajis brother Suryaji cut the ropes by which they climbed the fort.within 3-4 hrs Udebhan's Mughal troops 300 to 400 killed and other 800 ran away , Marathas lost around 40-50 Men.
