This kid is incredible. Not just by his chess abnormal talent, but because of his life story. Can’t wait to see him shine.

Dawgone, ChessDawg! Tani's play is brilliant, as was your analysis. I cannot get enough of this kid. He is knocking on the door of IM, or maybe the better metaphor, close to busting it down..

How many more points is Tani away from acheiving Grandmaster status?
@chessdawg
@chessdawg 3 жыл бұрын
Becoming a Grandmaster requires a number of hoops to jump through other than rating points, but in terms of rating points he is about 350 behind what he would need. He is currently a Fide Master, the next title after that is International Master, and then Grandmaster.

Maybe you mentioned, but what time control was this? Did Tani have a time advantage?
@chessdawg
@chessdawg 3 жыл бұрын
It was a 3-minute blitz game. At the end of the game Naka had 1:02 left and Tani had 0:38 left. So, there was plenty of time for both sides considering it was blitz.

@ChessDawg Wow, that's insane! Hikaru's probably the strongest speed chess player in U.S. history. Unbelievable that Tani beat him even once.

Glad this scandinavian was punished. White was very solid, and maybe those were the answers Naka was looking for. Or at least he got them. To stay solid, and convert is a sign of maturity.

Tani is a natural. Hikaru excels at tactical play but positionally he is somewhat inferior to other top players. I can't believe Hikaru allowed Re5 and especially Rg5. I think he plays too much Blitz. The quality of his play has gone down in the last decade or so.

Tani's passed pawn was Hikaru's downfall. Surprised that Hikaru wasn't more vigilant.

Yet he lost to Naroditsky just about a month ago? Clearly not that good then if you can’t even beat Naroditsky.
