The person who plays Kanjira was not a foreigner. He was an Indian named G. Harishankar, who left us 9 years ago.

This man has nothing but answers to questions posed by any mridangist at all! A ganjira legend of such ability may have yet to be born after his demise,i'm sure :)

🙏🙏🙏 this great maestro was born only to play ganjira. Nobody is yet born to play like him.🙏

Race is just a phenomena of melanin production, it doesn't matter who's white, brown, black, or tan, if a man picks up an instrument and plays his instrument well, that is all that matters. It is the energy that is nameless, raceless, and ageless, and that is the energy that passes through whoever makes their art audible or visible. If you judge a man based on his race, that says more about you than it does about him.
@anoninus Жыл бұрын
I don't think race is an issue here at all. From what I understand, Harishankar is fully Indian. He was also afflicted by albinism. I am willing to be corrected on this.

this man is a real genius... i don't think ANYONE can match him, let alone overtake him... there will be only one sun, only moon and only one Hari anna... i'm glad that i heard many of his concerts and i feel very fortunate to have spend time with him... he only inspired me to take up Kanjira as my profession...

Let be honest here....G. Harishankar is the UKS on Kanjira...the tones he produces in this thani avarthanem is absolutely astronomically phenomenal.

Check out Selvaganesh kanjira solo
@MASADHIYA4 жыл бұрын
@@kutzalan yes indeed but Selva is only 50% of HS since he is too much into so many unimportant things, there is no consistency in his approach and he is engrossed in his own family music ensemble rather than playing for plethora of artists...

In my opinion, both the 1st & 2nd percussionists (mridangam & ganjira)have slightly different roles to play in uplifting the thani...the 1st usually raises the momentum of the thani using very attractive build-up play,sets the kalapramanam, & gives the 2nd percussionist a good(new) dimension to contemplate upon,while the 2nd takes off on that momentum,improvises on that bit of information,& offers yet another dimension to the previous or subsequent performer...a job EXCELLENTLY done here!

I knew there was something special about that part, but I know next to nothing of Carnatic music, could you tell me exactly what it is he's doing there?
@shdwfng16 жыл бұрын
i'm sorry to say - harishankar's sense of aesthetics far exceeds that of UKS. although i completely agree UKS is a genius, the two should not be equated.
@MohanRam-hg5md6 жыл бұрын
ganesh ramanarayanan your 200% right. all the mridangists used to get upset when they comes to know they have to play with harishankar. the mridangists of all range from top level to bottom level would sit in the stage with extreme fear and shivering. he cornered the applause of all the mridangists.

Mr.Balamuralikrishna should have avoided in saying aah, uuu,eee and all when Khanjira maestro and a divine soul was playing. It's irritating and nuisance to hear voice when Vidhwan G Ravishankar plays. Also the sound from his hand when counting swaras and coughs...Absolutely irritating.
