I love what the boss did at 6:40. It unleashed the bullet storm at red, and most bullets flew past. Then red activated a shield, so instead of trying to shoot it, the boss charged into it so red would be knocked back and get hit by the rest of the bullet storm sooner. It's a shame it lost to blue immediately after, but that was such a cool move.

Excellent battle! The mini tank drones were a great addition. I feel like they could have unlocked a little earlier, and the behavior selector for the boss would primarily work for them, rather than the boss itself. Also there's a little oversight in weapon collision logic I think. Projectiles seem to respect friend/foe when it comes to colliding with wrecks. Which means player tanks can shoot at the boss over friendly tank wrecks, but can't shoot over mini tank wrecks. Same with the boss and mini-tanks shooting at players, just the other way around. Since it's hard to tell player wrecks from minitank wrecks, projectiles passing over some wrecks but not others is a bit confusing - so maybe make wrecks 'neutral', and either stop or let through all projectiles regardless?
@lostmarbles2d2 жыл бұрын
Excellent feedback as always. I'll probably make the wrecks "neutral", which adds some battle dynamics by them blocking shots.

@@lostmarbles2d Here's another fun idea. Give 'spawn tank' an upgrade by using the 'load' feature. Instead of spawning multiple tanks, make it spawn a single bigger tank, with appropriately multiplied HP and different weapons based on what load level it's used at. I.e., L1 makes a small gun drone, L2 makes a slightly bigger drone with dual gun, L3 makes a tank drone the size of player tanks armed with area-effect cannon, then L4 has a shotgun, L5 has a minigun, and L6 has swarmer missiles. The size caps out at L6, the only thing increasing past that would be HP. The spawned tanks really make it feel like a boss battle, with adds and stuff. And the bigger adds would make the field even more chaotic. :)

@JustAnotherCommenter2 жыл бұрын
Extension of SeanMirrsen's comment: Making mini tank drones for the boss appear earlier can also be useful for the boss to survive longer. "TARGET LOWEST" is what can bait the players to target the mini tank drones. "TARGET HIGHEST" being added can be beneficial for both sides. For players, they can ignore the mini tank drones. For the boss, it can target the fully healed player.

The concept with the tanks battling is very well though. Always enjoyable to watch. And my personal favourite between all the other great videos you make. I'd like to see you taking it to the next level. Maybe put some abilities, make every tank unique (I know it might be hard but I'm just saying). It sort of does. I didn't make any changes to the camera system from the team tank battle (previous video), and that camera system simply ensures that all tanks are on the camera. Because the mini tanks use the same tank script they are included in that.

I love how the team has a target option (near/low) even though there's only one enemy. Also funny how KZbin randomly recognizes this as Nuclear Throne. Edit: With the spawnable tank drones, the target option actually makes sense. Another thing I just noticed, Chase and Flee behaviors seem reversed.

@lostmarbles2d2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! As I understand it, the source of this niche is carykh's "amazing marble race" videos from many years ago. Their popularity inspired many other creators to make marble races, and over time people started making marble races with complex rules and "games" attached, the most successful of which is MIKAN, the channel that inspired my own. So I'd say the purpose of this channel is to just make entertaining battle videos that are controlled randomly by marbles :)
@Extramrdo2 жыл бұрын
They're short videos intentionally designed that you don't have to pay attention. You can take any particular timestamp, pause it, and using just what's on the screen at that exact moment know which side is winning. The stakes are minimal: it's all just RNG playing out, just slightly more engaging than a screensaver. And yet, the setup is visually interesting and unpredictable; you can't tell from the start what's exactly going to happen. Maybe you could make a guess, "oh the players have Heal and the boss does not, the last tank is gonna be basically invincible," but you'd have to watch to be sure. And then there's the dev. This video isn't in a vacuum. Everything onscreen reeks of "just approachable enough that anyone can make a suggestion." People don't understand deep machine learning. People do understand falling balls and tanks and stuff. "More of the pegs should spin" is something anyone can see, suggest, and the dev can heart the comment and say "Thanks, good feedback!" So while it seems like the dev can reuse the same program and put out an infinite number of identical videos, even throw up a 24/7 stream, that'd get stale quickly. Half the dev's job is the programming, the other half is in the comment section, fostering the community, making us feel heard and appreciated, like we have a stake in this channel itself. Now we're not just caring about individual videos, we're caring about a long-term viewership. And as a bonus: the other people in the comments actually form a community, so it's not like it's smoke and mirrors. The dev has fooled us into thinking they care about this marble project by, surprise, actually caring about this marble project. And the third key to success, the deep psychological hack to foster engagement: humans love to personify things. Balls falling down a plinko board, that's boring. But give them a target to hit, call it a "race," now you're invested in watching a scrappy underdog pry his way away from his streak of slamming into the left wall. Even though there's no "progress" to be made (they all restart at the top at the same board, keeping maybe only a tiny bit of random momentum from the previous run), the human mind is wired to *give* these colored balls a story. And what's more, give the balls different colors and humans will imprint their existing "favorite color" preference and even choose to root for one ball over another. Just for falling down a physics simulation! Put a few tanks on the screen, give the ball targets the context of "issuing orders," and you've got a full-blown theatrical event generated from just some initial starting conditions. oh and the music's cool

@@Extramrdo I think you've very accurately described the niche, and also given me some insight. I really appreciate the comment, thanks and thanks for watching!
