Wow! As a gay black man, I really appreciate this conversation. Today, the two most annoying things I see on Obama’s internet is homosexuality is a choice and people talking about the gay agenda. I have been gay as long as I can remember, well before the act of sex was even a thing for me. I was raised by heterosexual parents in a heterosexual culture, just like most others. I have three brothers, none of which are gay. I assure you that I did not choose to be gay, nor would I choose to be gay. Why would I, as a person from a marginalized community, choose to be potentially ostracized by my own community? When I was young, I struggled terribly with my sexuality. I too wanted to pray the gay away, which is why I attended a Christian college. I eventually came to terms with my reality. With that said, I am completely confused about the alleged gay agenda. If it exists, I never received the memo. All I do is try to live my life as peacefully and respectfully as I can, and allow others to do the same. For the most part, I just want others to stay out of my business as I stay out of their business.

I absolutely love this comment. This is my exact story as well, as a black gay man. Only difference is I went to a art school for college lol. I would have never chosen to be gay as a young child if I had the choice, (WE DONT HAVE THE CHOICE FOLKS, our sexuality is instinctual to all of us, its how each human is wired) but I would never change me now as I have learned and still learning to love myself.

I’ll go further and say the nerve of black people to say there’s a gay agenda while they’ve promoted *lesbianism* in rap and hip-hop culture for decades and praised the idea of threesomes between two women and a man or two men and a woman - it’s hypocrisy at its finest. It’s crazy that we even have to explain our sexuality to straight black people who can never explain when they made their “decision” to be heterosexual or at which age it went into effect. I feel these conversations will only be effective in the black community if we can respectfully call out all the bs in the midst of it.

I think straight men are traumatized by experiencing that predatory dominance that women experience all the time. Notice the first thing he (the host) said is he approached me or reacted like I was a bad bitch when talking about being hit on. Then he immediately thought omg what did I project to deserve this? Femininity deserves to be dominated but not me. I hate to break it to you but no one really wants to be dominated. Women will make do with the circumstances, but most of us just want to be left alone, loved, and protected. He just got a glimpse into what women deal with and it messed him up. My thoughts on it.

The world didn't change to suit us as people of color, and it's not gonna change, because of your sexual orientation. I'm gay. When I lived in Atlanta a straight male acquaintance asked me for my opinion. He was getting hit on by gay men and wanted to know if he was giving off a gay vibe or something. I told him I thought he was gay when we first met and that he does give off a gay vibe. But that doesn't necessarily mean anything. He said he was straight and I accepted that he knows what he is. But he was still upset about whatever people were perceiving about him. I asked him if every woman he hits on ends up liking it. He said, "No." I asked, "If a women gets all upset about getting hit on, what do you call her?" He said, "A bitch!" I told him that's what he was acting like. It's no different. The light bulb went on and he got it. If someone hits on you of any gender and you're not attracted to them, say "no, thank you" and move on. If you're ruminating about it, there's something in you to work out. He also expressed that now he understood what women must feel like when a man is simply being inappropriate and sexually aggressive towards them. I admired him for his shift in awareness.

As a gay man, living in a small town of Mandeni, South Africa, this conversation is very relevant to this day. Boys and men in my hometown are soo nosy, be all up in my business like females do, while being performative with their masculinity, its a different story after dark, they approach you, wanna have sex with you, etc. That right there is the DL culture in the small towns. It bothers me so much that the self proclaimed heterosexuals talk down and marginalize a communtiy that dont fit their standards, ughhhh.

I don’t understand why heterosexual black men are so timid and easily offended by a gay man noticing their attractiveness. If someone approaches you with a compliment just take the compliment. If they proceed in trying to take it further just state your position and let them know you are not interested. It’s simple and should not be blown out of proportion. Women and men approach each other all the time and if there’s no attraction the conversation is over before it gets too far. Keep that same approach and you will be fine. However no gay person should be walking around on eggshells trying to determine if they should take a chance to get to know someone they’re attracted to. The comment from the host “ What energy am I giving off that is making you feel that it’s ok for you to approach me?” is a prime example of toxic masculinity. You don’t control another person’s attraction. The only power you have is the ability to turn the advances down. Leave it at that. ❤❤❤

Good conversation. I agree with Tank, sexuality is not contagious or a calculated decision. Also, removing gender and sexuality from the situation entirely, when a random person approaches you they are simply doing so based on attraction. They do not know whether sexuality, personality, etc. is compatible. They are just expressing interest. This is true for a woman being approached by a man in a bar or a man being approached by a man on a sidewalk.

To what you said in the beginning about the double standard of women being able to get away same sex interactions and not have their straight identity questioned, I would like to add that part of that reason has to do with how we sexualize women. I also think that since “traditional” masculinity is rooted in male whiteness (supremacy), some black men may feel a need to be overly masculine to avoid like you said, having their character assassinated.

Thats because youre secure in self. The alleged trauma comes from men who arent complete in themselves. 90% of male who share those ideals were taught that foolishness from a hypermasculine hegemonic society. The ones that tote, real men dont cry, real men dont do xyz and other 🐂💩. Dated talking points and ideals as such are whats ingrained into a lot of males. So they internalize that, which in its self becomes conflicting. Because no creature on this planet is gung ho one or the other. The balance of yin and yang. Masculinity isnt real and never could be metered to be tested. Too much emphasis on one format of masculinity is never beneficial.

Racist see blacks as criminals etc. We know as a community, this is not true and there are so many layers to us as black people, and we deserve to be represented as a vibrant multifaceted culture. Unless if you were abused at some point in your life by a male then why would it be considered "traumatizing" 🤔. I call "cap"! I believe it's conditioning to think homosexuality is wrong. There's a pretty strong link between homophobia and misogyny in society, when you are taught that women are inferior any femininity expressed by men is seen to devalue them (dressing/acting/being feminine). Being hit on by a man (only women are 'supposed' to be hit on by men) is internalized as an attack on the subject's masculinity and an attempt to devalue them. In addition gay men as a demographic can be seen as a threat to masculinity as a whole for the same reasons.

His story about not knowing why men in public would be looking at him (I wonder how he dresses in public) or even attracted to him AT ALL - or enough to approach him in public just blew my mind. That is absolutely WILD to me. He couldn’t possibly think gay men who wanted feminine guys would approach him unless he’s portraying femininity in public. I feel it’s totally disingenuous to pretend there’s no logical reason a man would be attracted to him out in public as if he’s only found attractive by women because that’s where his interest are as a married man lies. I mean it just makes absolutely zero sense. Gay men aren’t going to allow crap like that to sneak by though, everything said needs to be addressed in these types of conversations because these conversations must be had in good faith in order to make progress.

For me if you claim not to be homophobic but still make an effort to belittle because you were hit on by some black gay men while out with your wife and you make that an issue, then defeats the whole INTENTION of having decided to have this conversation! If you want to really deal with these uncomfortable issues, how about getting gay men on your podcast and give them a voice! Having 2 straight men talk about a world that they are not a part of is like having 2 white people try to have an intelligent conversation about what it’s really like being black in America/ the world! If you want to talk about homophobia but don’t include homosexual people, it’s still homophobia in a very subdued form if you ask me! If you choose to exclude gay black men in this conversation, then why have the conversation and decide to EXCLUDE THEM? Makes no sense to me!!

To be fair, just because someone does not want to be hit on does not mean they are not secure with their sexuality. @@Youttubi when do you ever hear about lesbians getting upset because they had to turn down someone? Never. Black men literally will disrespect you just because you hit on them as if gay men all look the same and you’re supposed to know they aren’t interested vs. simply letting someone know you respectfully decline which is totally different. Stop pretending y’all don’t see the difference. Homophobia is not the same as “not wanting to be hit on”. As a gay black man I’m hit on by females every single day I go out in public, I’m never rude to women no matter how many times I have to turn a new one down. It’s called maturity and grace, you have to care and strive to treat folks with love & respect in order to relate. It’s very simple though.

There is no gay agenda all you have is gay people trying to live their lives just like everyone else. And that makes some people very uncomfortable because of situations going on with them personally, a few examples are they might have been sexually assaulted by the same sex or they themselves are struggling with their own sexuality and because they might be so religious they hate themselves and hate others that live in their own truth because they don't have the courage to do the same without being outcast by family, friends or possibly murdered by someone they know. It's a lot of scenarios and possibilities that I didn't mention but hopefully you get some semblance of the picture. However there is an agenda to paint black people in a negative light no matter if their gay or straight just think back to how the black community was painted on television when we got our first acting jobs, we were the jokes and when we started to do horror movies we were the first to die or presented as the worst stereotypes in comedy movies. You turn on your news who do you see committing crimes? Black people aren't the only ones but we are the face of everything negative and that not an accident but by design not just in America but world wide. But you want to hate a group of people that simply want to see themselves represented with dignity and respect just like the black community which the gay community has a piece of every every community.

I love this interview. I absolutely love Tank for bringing this forth. It's so very interesting to hear from the host about "being traumatized" after getting "hit on" - versus seeing himself as an attractive man that women and gay men JUST HAPPEN to see. His response of "what it is about me that made you feel that I'm that way" - while you're sitting there looking physically fit, great skin, great smile, tight shirt on, muscles... and you're like "what is it about me"?? 😂😂😂😂😂 YOU FINE DUDE. But it does NOT mean that a gay man is going to grab you. There a very masculine men who are gay!!! And I think that's what f*cks straight men up when another guy hollas at them: they instantly feel "feminized" bcs they feel like what a woman feels like when men catcall or get stepped to. It's so simple: just tell the person you're straight/they got the wrong impression and MOVE ON. It has nothing to do with "they trying to get me". Mannnn... I am so happy this platform is actually doing this topic justice. New subscriber here. Keep up the good work. 🔥🔥🔥👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

When you’ve been conditioned to believe that sexuality and desires should be seen in one way, it’s easy to fight hard for what you believe to be true and I think we can all attest to that with many other things in life. However, I believe that people just need to break away from thinking that their sexuality, preferences, and desires is the sun, the moon, and the stars. Folks need to wake up and understand that fluid sexuality has been around since the beginning of time and just because you do one thing, does not me that those who do not are wrong or canceled out.
