During my time in the Army, we had a HMMWV burn into a pond upside down. They tried to lift it out with a Chinook with no luck. They brought in a tank retriever, and everybody laughed when I told them it was as good as out. Pulled it right out.

​​@@CourlandEngineering well the case 150 can pull about 40,000 lbs more than the strongest diesel tractors. But if the tank is way stronger, why not make tractor tanks. Like a tank, but no gun and solely for the purpose of tugging? And if weight has a factor, does it mean anything that the WZT-2 weighs 34 tons and the Case 150 weighs 37.5 tons? The Case 150 can pull 100,000 lbs, how many pounds can the WZT-2 pull?

@@ThunderboltSirenStudios you kind of don't necessarily want a tractor that weighs 70 tons so you don't get stuck every time it rains. There are versions of tanks meant for tank recovery. Well considering a wzt can pull out a stuck t55 I'd say a lot considering the t55 weighs like 40 tons iirc

@@ThunderboltSirenStudios these people have no clue what they are talking about. That 150 horsepower Case makes more than 5,000 ft lbs of torque. That is not a typo and any doubters can Google it. That has been measured on several prony brakes (I don't expect anybody who knows nothing about steam to know what a Prony break is) but anyway here's a little lesson. Steam engines and electric motors are pretty much the only thing that provide full power (torque) instantly. As soon as you crack the throttle on the engine which by the way has a 14 inch bore and stroke, it would drag that tank plus some. ✳️ Update. Since writing this I have went back and watched a couple of videos with the Case 150 on it and I was wrong, it doesn't make 5,000 ft lb of torque..... It's maxes out at nearly 8,000 foot pounds of torque.

I’d like to see it for sure, people get horse power and torque confused, the case has way more torque. It would all come down to traction. The case may do better because more weight is on a smaller point of contact and would dig in better, the tracks would act like skis for the TRV.

The limiting factor here is traction not power, A pickup has enough traction to where that extra power can actually keep you going fast towing up a hill.

Weight alone doesnt do anything, you need traction and torque to move it adequately. Weight adds to traction but required torque to move. If you look at modern Leopard 2 tanks with their 46L engines pumping out 4700Nm of torque, you understand why gearing isnt that important. More important would be to have a drivetrain that is proverbially bulletproof when 60+ tons haul it through rough terrain at speeds no ordinary but capable off-road vehicle could achieve on the same turf.
