For fuel delivery, we use the bulkhead one. Have 5 or 6 different compartments. Good for delivering different products to a gas station. Maybe 4 compartments regular, 1 compartment premium and one diesel. It's also good to be able to load a bit heavier in the front and loading a bit lighter in the back, if it's winter driving conditions. Extra traction for the tractor.

The video is wrong, Bulkheads can be sanitized. In Germany they are frequently used for food, especially for milk. It is just a little more work because you have more surfaces.

@Electroblud6 жыл бұрын
You know, we don't all drink beer in Germany. Also, a tanker is pretty much the worst way to transport beer I can think of. With all the sloshing around and the pressure building up due to CO2.

@KhataarFelMataar6 жыл бұрын
Maybe there is a solution but it would increase the time needed to unload?
@ToastedFanArt6 жыл бұрын
KhataarFelMataar Surely they could just put some baffles down the length of it as well as from side to side. Then the unloading time would be unaffected.
@KhataarFelMataar6 жыл бұрын
Toasted Fan Art I wouldn't know I'm not knowledgeable on this subject. I just figured that it would result in bigger costs.. why else wouldn't they have made a solution for it? Hehe
@ToastedFanArt6 жыл бұрын
KhataarFelMataar The dude in the video says how none of the examples have side to side sloshing protection, and that's it's dangerous. So I simply stated the obvious that if it's dangerous then they should make a solution. Adding baffles down the centre wouldn't cost much extra compared to the overall cost and also it's much cheaper than the cost of the truck tipping cos it didn't have the baffles.

Used to drive a smooth bore milk tanker though never knew it by that name. The worst was if you had only half a load of cream or something on as there was more room for the liquid to flow. Sure felt that at a roundabout or junction!

I even had serious problems with "liquid surge" when using a forklift to move partially filled drums and 330 gal. IBC totes. I lost one of my partial drum loads, which was filled with extremely expensive masking agent. I was lucky, to say the least! Where I was working, we were also moving drums of high strength hydrogen peroxide with the forklift. The masking agent incident totally changed my perception on forklift operating as relating to safety and materials transport/movement. Liquid surge can be deadly regardless of the transport scale!! I've had lots of forklift training/safety, but I don't recall any ever dealing with this liquid surge and related, on forklift.

I learnt to drive trucks in a rigid smoth bore tanker. I think i got thrown in the deep end from get go and just told not to roll it over and never did but had it on the lean a couple of times. Very strange feeling to drive and getting gear changes timed in with the surge took some getting used to.

On straight road, sloshing is no problem. The real problem of breaking out sideways becomes a problem when strong braking happens while driving through a curve. If we prevent the liquid too strongly from coming to the front, the truck would literally "rail off" with its tailside. So this is a matter of proper balance between sloshing displacement and trailing stability.
