The brown-gray camouflage was not field applied. it was introduced in1938 and was superseded with the well known panzergrau monocolour after the conclusion of the French campaign in june1940.Thegrey(twothirds) and the brown(onethird) was applied in random patterns so that each vehicle had its own unique scheme. Examples can be found in"blitzkrieg-armour camouflage and markings 1939-1940" by S. Zaloga and "Panzer"by H. Scheibert and other publications, but the patterns are hard to discern as they look almost the same on a black and white photo.

I honestly like the 3 book series from Bruce Culver, it is highly detailed organized and well-researched. Panzer Colors I-III

The 75mm. L.24 KwK.37 gun received the most comprehensive and varied ammunition choice, compared to other German tank guns. It also shared this ammunition choice with the 75mm. L.22 Ig.18, Ig.37 & Ig.40. Armour Piercing ammunition performance (from Kummersdorf range tests): APHE KGrRotPz. (In service 1937) shell = Up to 48mm. @ 0 degrees @ 100 metres. APCBC-HE PzGr.39 shot with tail grenade (In service 1940) = Up to 57mm. @ 0 degrees @ 100 metres. APCR PzGr.40 shot (In service 1941) = Up to 76mm. @ 0 degrees @ 100 metres. HEAT Gr.38 Hl/A shell (in service 1939) = Up to 84mm. @ 0 degrees @ all ranges. HEAT Gr.38 Hl/B shell (in service 1939) = Up to 91mm. @ 0 degrees @ all ranges. HEAT Gr.38 Hl/C shell (In service 1939) = Up to 120mm. @ 0 degrees @ all ranges. Other ammunition included HE, Smoke & Case/Cannister.

The Pz IV A-E also usually had a small allotment of Canister Shot as well. Kt. KW.K

Front hull was not sloped just 9 degrees... superstructure was... upper hull had much higher slope, almost 73 degrees (T34 had only 60 degrees slope), but was just 20-25mm thick, yet it was good enough to deflect most hits.. thats why over time, only supestructure armor was upgraded, first by adding additional 30mm, 50mm and then 80mm thick plate.

I'm getting used to the random footage from irrelevant wars and theaters lol. Some great info in the article thanks.

14:38 never seen a Pz.4 with the short 75mm with schurzen; were they added later on in the war on an old chassis (maybe for testing)? Otherwise the side vision ports and pistol ports would have been blocked by the armored skirts. I'm really curious about that particular Panzer 👀

Short-barelled Panzer IVs were still in use late into the war, in units that were not meant to be on the frontline. However, as times got desperate, they found themselves thrown into the first and there are a couple more later variants (D, E, short F) seen with the short gun and the Schurzen. And yes, it would have blocked out vision ports and pistol ports, but these were deleted on later-built tanks anyway.

@@TanksEncyclopediaYT Thank you very much for the answer☺ for what regards the early panzer IV, are there any Ausf. A, B, or C that survive in a museum ?
@TanksEncyclopediaYT4 жыл бұрын
Nope. 3 Ds, 1 E and 1 short F. Plenty of long barrels though.

@@TanksEncyclopediaYT one last question, I've heard Hilary Doyle saying that the ammo capacity for the main gun went up when the kwk.40 was installed, due to "better stowage". Do you have any information about how the stowing was improved? because judging by the case length, It would seem counterintuitive 😞
@TanksEncyclopediaYT4 жыл бұрын
We'll answer that when we get to the long barreled ones :D

you dont always need to say the "ausf." with the name. it's not a word anyway. either say "ausführung" or just the letter without the "ausf." :)
