Very interesting that type 95 actually Saw a bit of use after the war dispite being so obsolete I heard they also Saw some service in Korea. I guess a tank is always usefull, as long as you have one and the opponent doesn't you have An advantage.

when your "enemy" has no armour even the most out dated tank is a power multiplier

The tank wasn't totally obsolete as it was a light tank that was designed to traverse jungle terrain and was comparable to the m3 and m5 stuart tanks in it use and capabilities. That's one of the reasons why it was the main battle tank the Allies fought on islands and dense jungles as it was easy to transport, fix and move around compared to japan's more heavily armed and armored tanks that were available.

@@gelf6303 Yes, a case of horses for courses. MBT's are still hampered by dense jungle or mountains with narrow passes. WWII Light Infantry moving through jungle would have problems with even the lightest of tanks. Any choke point would become an impassable killing ground. Until the tank chose to relocate and start the whole process again in another prepared position. Quite a different scenario than the war of manoeuvre envisaged elsewhere. The best Japanese armour was being held back for defence of the home islands. Thankfully the allied forces never needed to face them.

Fascinating video, I didn't know France used Japanese armor, thanks a lot for this video ! Your channel is a awesome and your website too! Keep it up! If I may add something though, 0:30 there never was a Third Empire in France, it was the second one. It was led by Napoléon the Third so I understand that it may be confusing.

Absolutely, it was the third republic from 1870 to 1940 and fourth republic during the Indochine war.

Wow another good vid about a very niche subject, congrats. The french also used captured japanese small arms, artillery and even planes ! The situation in the first years of the Indochina war was quite precarious in materiel, anything was useful.

The French also used ex Japanese aircraft in Indo-China, but they didn't like them much.

I am curious of how many Panther tanks the French forced Germany to supply, after the war in Europe?
@bnipmnaa
@bnipmnaa 3 жыл бұрын
The French used approx 50 Panther tanks between 1944 and 1947, all of which were captured from the Germans. The only Panthers produced post-war were built under the supervision of the British REME, which found enough partly-completed hulls at the factory to assemble 9 Panthers and 12 Jagdpanthers.

The french were so underequipped that had to resolve to employ some KI43 and JU52, perhaps they should've considered an honorable retreat as the British, but no no the classical chicken 's pride that doomed the entire area to the reds

They shouldn't have bothered coming back honestly. A weird post-war joining of British and Japanese troops who hadn't been repatriated home yet had all but crushed the Viet Mihn.... until the French came back and brutality of poorly disciplined new French troops, drawn primarily from the former resistance fighters, sparked a huge growth in Viet Mihn ranks.

ah yes, the classic "ho chi minh wasn't communist until the French forced him to" despite having literally founded the French communist party in the 1920's. France was looking for an exit all throughout that war that WASN'T communist, hence Bao Dai and the short lived South Vietnam.

@@wolfehoffmann2697 I am friends with the daughter of one of the French officers who served in Indo-China. He had been a Maquisard, and had been joined into the FFI and then the French army. He had been trained thoroughly before going out east. By the time that former resistance fighters got to Indo China, they had been rather busy fighting Germans, and of course there were plenty of regular French soldiers too.
