I'd like to request something a bit out of left field. If you haven't already seen it, could you possibly react to Christopher Lee's work in Metal. As probably the oldest person ever to enter the Metal scene, and with a life story more Metal than all of us put together, I think it deserves a look. That guy was a special agent, a soldier, survived a bombing attack and six bouts of malaria, hunted nazi war criminals, played Dracula & Saruman, and was the oldest person to win "The Spirit of Metal" award. Lee worked with Manowar and Rhapsody of Fire, and later did two albums about Charlemagne, from whom he descended, or with the holidays approaching soon, you could opt for his Heavy Metal Christmas stuff instead if you aren't looking for something too serious.

I randomly discovered Eluveitie 10 years ago (god time flies) at a small local festival where they weren't even headlining And it was fucking awesome, and they've pretty much stayed my favourite band since then. Their take on the folk metal sound is just out of this world Don't wait, just get their entire discography and start blasting it, from the acoustic concept albums to their usual heavy duty sound, they don't have a single bad song

I was fortunate enough to see them live before Merlin, Anna and Ivo left to form Cellar Darling and it was awesome. Because they were not supposed to be headlining, but were because Epica had to pull out of the tour, they performed an amazing acoustic set that hardly anyone wanted to end. The violinist with them on that tour was Shir-Ran Yinon, she had been with them for about two weeks and sounded as though she had been with them for many years, absolutely fantastic!

If you like metal infused with traditional sounds, I'd suggest Whispered, specifically their strong "Strike" or "Jikininki". At the risk of sounding like a total Weeb; they're a Finnish band that uses Japanese styles and mythology as their base and I'd say it's done pretty damn well.

Anna and part of the others that left the band are now in Cellar Darling, where Anna does most of the vocals. They're two albums in now and definitely did some touring with Delain (another nice one :), I never would have stumbled across Merel Bechtold and her work if it , who's been in Delain for a while. Not sure what the current state of them is but her album with Purest of Pain is awesome and she started a new project called dear mother, too) so there might be some actual life footage to react to, but they're definitely worth giving a listen to even if there isn't. I wonder if that tin whistle works like a regular register 🤔 That's the only instrument I actually managed to learn in primary school (I really am no good with any instruments, so... 🤣)

@@TankTheTech but what about "fiddlers green" a german band somewhere in the range of "flogging molly" which calls their style "irish speedfolk" even as a i feel the speed and irish parts were a bit lacking on the last 2 albums, but they have lots of older albums (first album in 1992) and coming album seems promesing for a song in that flogging molly range i would say "Bugger Off" (it even has a funny music video) more folk style would be there cover of "Boat on the River" from "Styx" and more irish would be something like "Star of the County Down" or "Rocky Road to Dublin" Another german band you can check out for something like Flogging Molly would be "The O'Reillys and the Paddyhats"

If you wonder why there are no original band manbers anymore, Chrigel talked about that in an interview at Beth Roars (I think). Its mostly because the band members were mostly (and partly are still) hobby musicians. So if all the traveling around and stuff become to much they leave the group without hard feeling from both sides. Especially in context of those rare instruments, there is mostly just a hobby behind it and this is an adventure that will come to an end eventually. I donßt like to see so much changing an a band, but in this case i became okay with it and see it as a .. characteristic of this band.

I notice you enjoy bands with non-traditional modern/metal instruments, like Eluveitie with Folk/Celtic instruments. I also remember you mentioned anime before. Have you heard of, or listened to Waggaki Band? They are a Japanese band, that plays traditional Japanese music (they have begun writing modern songs as well). They use traditional Japanese instruments, with modern instruments, with a modern adaptation. Waggaki is the name of a traditional form of Japanese music. They are a performance group as well as a band, as they normally wear traditional clothing. They also have huge production and tend to perform in large stadiums/arenas, to allow for their stages. I would recommend: 和楽器バンド / 「起死回生」6/21発売「和楽器バンド大新年会2017東京体育館 -雪ノ宴・桜ノ宴-」より - Wagakki Band / "Kishikaisei" released on 6/21 from "Wagakki Band Daishinkai 2017 Tokyo Gymnasium -Yukino Feast / Sakura no Feast-" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmm0aWh_pdx2hpY You may not find the band as heavy as you normally listen to, but I think you would enjoy the music, and appreciate the production and performance.
