They explain in Xolo and Jacob's podcast how they weren't as close with Tanner the first 2 seasons. Tanner mostly filmed with Ralph and Mary and barely ever saw Xolo and Jacob. Tanner was initially very introverted the first 2 seasons. The rest of the cast would hang out and do fun stuff and Tanner preferred being alone doing his own thing. However since season 3 and going forward Tanner has been hanging with the cast a lot more and is more outgoing than before
