You know how shatterspin is said to shatter all the goodness within a person, by extension leaving them with just evil? Sounds an awful lot like the effect the great devourer's bite had on Garmadon. Chen probably knows this, so he probably hopes that Garmadon in his attempt of learning shatterspin will be completely overtaken by his inner evil (since he has little good left in him to begin with) and thus rejoin him promptly.

Though bases in Ninjago since the power of FSM was there to counter his evil force and create balance, this also explains how Overlord brought back to life Harumi from the Departed Realm. It is very much possible that Forbidden Five was aligned with Overlord until they were trapped and Overlord shortly after creating his army based on Forbbiden Five was banished to Dark Island since FSM knew he can't win especially if he saw that Overlord and his allies posses unknown arts to him so he divided the Island in Two.

Chen returning means that he must be alive again. That would mean that Departed Realm merged like other realms bringing everyone dead alive, possibly even the good part of Garmadon (maybe reborn inside the Evil Garmadon, giving him back his memories and greater understanding of himself)

Removing death in its entirety as a barrier, even if implicitly by selectively picking and choosing old characters to bring back for really fan service rather than it actually making sense in the story (cough, people wanting Morro back even after he *literally lost his power to a new and interesting character,* cough), means there are no stakes. That's no better than just making all characters immortal but they just need to regenerate if mortally wounded. They'd just have to make their way from the departed realm back to Ninjago. Well, they would lose their power probably, but oh boy will I be shaking from the uncertainty if one of the characters LOSES their power, it has neeever been done before and _no_ character *_ever_* got their power back by the next season finale at the latest after losing it. Either any character can return from the departed realm, or no character can. There. Is. No. In. Between. Some characters are just better left dead. Why are people so passionate about the show apparently having to keep resurrecting old characters to satiate them (which then pisses off the rest of us who just want to enjoy the show but can't because death means nothing), but I've never seen even one of them who love these older characters to this extent even entertain the idea of a prequel after Dragons Rising wraps up? This is why nether-space is a cool concept, it's at least pretending that Kai will be stuck there for 1000 years, which will probably either have a time travel (or celestial clock forwarding with the elemental power of time or whatever) or an oni magic work-around (though honestly I doubt the writers would go this way, unless Kai actually stays stuck until S3E10 or even later to allow this plot line to develop organically). Can this many people really be this short-sighted? So TL;DR, a forsaken one-way barrier which allows you to enter the departed realm but not exit it, maybe with the exception of people like Lloyd and Harumi who died (and were heading or ended up in the departed realm) but were resurrected to make it more interesting, is it too much to ask for death to mean something? At least Garmadon and Harumi's resurrections allowed for an interesting story to develop. Or an attempt at a compelling story about forgiveness and trauma, but Tommy apparently managed to write a character who disowned and practically killed his son but he gets a compelling redemption because he was brought back evil and it wasn't his fault, and then decided that he doesn't understand how people can support that other character who was completely crushed by trauma, eventually died to the mistakes she commited because of said trauma and then was resurrected by a literal force of evil to be its enslaved herald (And did I mention that a sizable part of the fandom thinks death would be a good fate for this character?). Respectively, of course.

If anything it would be similiar to Clause, those who were strong enough would escape while the realm would disintegrate those who can't. In that sense possibly those like Chen would have upperhand, Morro was always righteous just was jealous and that jealousy made him Preeminent slave of some sort. Garmadon couldd easily regain his identity, if that was the case. However it would mean he would have long journey in the new realm again like he used to have before serpentine wars, essentially finding his own part. In this case it could be moving almost like Bonzle in my opinion. As for Chen he would probably remain mortal. As the realm essentially would be collapsing at the same time opening gate to the merged realms, just that the people which wouldn't make it in time would cease to exist with the realm.

​@@piotrkijak1774 Clouse actually got out because he was lucky. Lowkey scene, when Lloyd passed Chen and Clouse in season 5, you can see Clouse trying to cut through the cage holding him in. Apparently he managed to cut through just before the preeminent was flooded. Also, Chen isn't even in the departed realm anymore probably. The DR S1 administration episode strongly implies the cursed realm returned to normal again, be it because "Preeminent is the realm, literally" was retconned or because it got unstuck from the departed realm curtesy of the merge, and the way I always understood it, the cursed souls inside the preeminent (whether that be a seperate place or the entire realm) still stayed inside, but that realm/pocket dimension just became a part of the departed realm as a bonus. If you were a spirit that could move freely like Morro, then you could enter the departed realm easily, but someone like Chen? Stuck in the cage unless called upon by unelaborated Yang magic. That's the way Tommy interpreted it in his final interview. I don't think that having a strong will should be enough to leave the departed realm though. The most powerful of being with the most powerful wills, like the oni? Sure, why not, they're part of balance and all and thus crazy powerful. But humans? As I said, should be stuck unless they're one of those resurrected people who decided to go in there for some reason, because that is good ground for a story relating to the departed realm's inclusion in the merged lands. Though, I'm still more in favor of retconning the departed realm as a realm in its entirety and just saying it's just the afterlife world, separate from the realms though still very important to them.

It’s really interesting that Chen of all people is the one that knew about the F5, and S2 Part 2 is literally just a rehash of the tournament of elements. Makes me wonder if we may get a surprise near the end with a Garmadon or even Chen return. Garmadon especially feels integral to the F5 storyline, so fingers crossed.

Also I imagine Clouse is hiding behind the wall listening in on their conversation for some reason. When Chen walks back inside Clouse is like- "Why would you send him on a quest like that?! What if he succeeds and ends the war?!" "Oh, he won't. If anything the Forbidden 5 are probably a myth.." "So then why did you..?" "Because it's funny. Lighten up Clouse."

Yeah I for sure felt like Chen was up to something fishy here. Tbh I felt like this was really out of character for Chen. Before dragons rising, i had hoped the ninjago developers would bring all the elemental masters back from season 4. Epic battle. Instead, they bring friends from the past 4 ish seasons or so. I then lost hope in ninjago, with them losing their biggest opportunity for big money. The sets would have been sold so fast. Now, they bring chen back ?
