Thanks for this. I am a low-income person with a coordination disability. After much research (and lots of time to save), I was able to purchase a cricut maker. It allows me to make readable signs (which I use in my advocacy work-- fighting for rights for people with disabilities!) I love crafting (even though I can't really manage some of the physical parts of it.) Videos like this are just so stinkin' valuable to those of us who NEED to know where we can go with cheaper materials versus when we need to save up! Again, many thanks!

@@amandamartinez6124 what is that??
@maelynnwolertz4398
@maelynnwolertz4398 Жыл бұрын
@@sassytbc7923What is resin? Or, what is UV resin? Or both? Resin is generally a clear plastic that starts as a liquid which will become solid and can be used for mold making. Or, for protecting/encasing a surface. There are more varieties of resin that are available on the market than before which makes the newer resins easier to work with. (Less dangerous, less fragile, less yellowing, less unintentionally bubbly, etc.) Most resin work I hear of nowadays is generally epoxy resin or UV resin. If it doesn’t specify “UV” or another type then it’s likely epoxy. UV resin is a type of resin that doesn’t need to be mixed by the person using it unlike many other resins which have a part A & part B which have to be mixed according to instruction. Since UV resin does not require mixing, what starts the hardening process from liquid to solid is UV light->hence the term “UV resin.” Oftentimes people will have a UV emitting tool to help UV resin harden, though hypothetically the sun should be able to harden it as well. Which…this is why the containers for UV resin are not transparent so it can avoid UV light and remain in liquid form until it is used. And, UV resin when exposed to sufficient UV light instantly hardens unlike other resins which take time/patience. Some people have used resin with Cricut & I am new to Cricut, but have used resin for a while…which the resin use for me started in conjunction with painting & layers of glazing because it was firmer & held stronger over various surfaces than many painting mediums.

I can appreciate your attempt to do a comparison video of vinyl. 👍🏼I honestly have not tried EITHER vinyl in my Cricut. (I use to work in a sign shop and prefer Oracal.) The very first thing I noticed that the back of the Cricut vinyl is WHITE when you where testing the stickiness. That definitely attributes to the opacity of the color in dark colors. What concerns me is the lightfastness. With the color being printed onto the vinyl, it may not wear as well. Does it scuff and expose the white? Over time, in sunlight, does it slowly lighten?? The Crafter’s Choice vinyl is the same color all the way through; it would still show scuffs, but no white. I’d be interested in seeing a follow up video when you leave the pot out side for a month or more. (Rotating periodically of course) 🤓

Thank you, Tanner, for the thorough comparison! I’ve seen many video comparisons and they only do simple cuts like circles or hearts. But the majority of our projects obviously require lettering and intricate cuts, so I don’t think their test was a true indicator of what we would experience in most of our projects! Your excitement in Dollar Tree and Hobby Lobby is definitely relatable, lol! I also had the same reaction the first time I ran my DT glitter vinyl through my Cricut and cancelled the cut many times. Is there a similar transfer tape that is clear and not too tacky? I guess this is white. I’m looking for something like that but clear so I can still see the design and transfer on bulletin board paper without it ripping the paper when I peel the transfer tape. Thank you!

They can use the vinyl and make tags pictures cards for friends…all the things that we wouldn’t have let them use our premium vinyl to make. Would I sell anything with it%? Absolutely not! I’m excited to try stencils and some mixed media applications. I also just got some glitter, my thought in store I’d that on like tags or card the glitter from cricut it just too thick, will this work better if it is thinner? I’m going to try and find out. I also use pretty chunky cuts like a Christmas tree without scroll work. Just my thoughts others might totally disagree. 😀

As a beginner and a grandma , you can use this vinyl to practice and it may take a bit of extra work but will not break the bank to use , also for using with the grandkids who want to make things as well , they like simple , like shapes , their name etc , looks like it would be good for that , again it would be a cheaper way to be able to do more project with the kids .

I’ve found that the explore 3 doesn’t cut any other vinyl other than smart vinyl well. It’s very frustrating. I still have the explore air 2 and maker and they cut any vinyl beautifully.

I have to try again, but I got rid of my maker, which cut DT vinyl ok, and got the maker 3. It moves so fast it rips the vinyl. I tried three times. The regular maker didn't do that.

I found this video cause I was trying to find tips for it cause I was having the same problem of the vinyl coming up while cutting. I am so glad I found this channel cause I've already learned so much in just the last few days.

Try the washi setting with the lightest pressure and if the vinyl is lifting off of the mat even after using your brayer try using painters tape (just what I have at home) to tape down the edges. Don't try anything really small or intricate and for me it has been a great learning material. Good luck and have lots of fun! Also, if you make something and really like it I would seal it with whatever is appropriate for the material you have put your vinyl on, such as Modge Podge, resin, poly coat. That way you won't have to worry about it lifting. You won't have to that with brands like Oracle, Sisal, etc.

@@tracywetsch3566 ok thank you I will definitely try these tips! I've had a couple things come out good using the gold glitter vinyl from dt. The holo almost foil type is the one I'm having major trouble with, but I will try that setting and stuff out and hopefully it helps.

@@maryann3820 that iridescent halo foil one is my favorite! I have used it to cut out names, placed them on 4" acrylic rounds with resin on top, then a design on the back with resin for ornaments. I have had my machine for a year now and have started trying things like the resin key fobs and ornaments. I was intimated at first but I am having so much fun now. Enjoy your machine and don't be like me and be intimidated to try new things...lol

I had the exact same experience as you with the dollar store vinyl. I've been using in place of paper and glue. It so nice not to try to glue down small pieces. I use washing tape or glitter paper setting. Also just for cards or deco projects. I rarely use it for intricate cuts or if I do I plan to duplicate it several times to get enough good parts to make what I need

I think If your being crafty on a budget or cant afford the cricut brand, AND you have the patience to take your time with the material the the Dollar store brand will do BUT, if your able to afford a higher quality of vinyl and you want to craft or sell high end items, then that would be the best bet.
