Me, who has a drawer full of 1in and smaller pieces of scrap vinyl: people dont precisely cut out their design and save the extra??? Who would just peel that huge chunk off???

👋😳 Ummm….me when I first started? 🫣🤭 Thankfully, I quickly quit & now have joined the 1”-2”+ piece drawer crew 😉 It drives my husband bonkers, but I also do that with my fabrics for sewing as well, so he’s fairly used to it now lol.

I would add "stop weeding small letters from the outside first". Especially with smaller letters, if you weed the inside pieces first you're less likely to push the letter out of place because it still has the outside vinyl to keep it from shifting. GREAT tutorial!! Thanks so much for preaching the kerning message lol! :)

Thank you so much for the reminder about not unloading before verifying that the cut is correct. I have a brand new Maker 3. My environment is a little cool where I work. The very 1st test cut was incomplete. Weeding was a challenge. I figured out that I either need to increase the pressure or repeat the cut without unloading. Glad Press and Seal works amazing for the felt trick to save the mat. You just pull out how much you need and tear it off right out of the box. I've never thought about using contact paper before. Im going to run some numbers and do whichever will save me the most money. Saving 5 cents here and there ends up adding up to a new blade pretty quick, lol. Jeeez, I'm cheap! What happened to me😅!

A tip I have is to remove your blade if you have been cutting glitter paper and use a paper clip to remove glitter from I side the blade housing as it can clog up and stop the blade from rotating smoothly. I put a piece of double stick tape on the paper clip and just cut away the extra. The glitter will stick to the paper clip and come out of the housing easily.
@F15mother Жыл бұрын
Tanner of @Makers Gonna Learn, THANK YOU!!! Your tutorials are always fun & informative. I'd like to share with you, something I figured out after some very frustrating weeds, that go along with your tricks with weeding vinyl from the mat. I have actually started adding a cut line around my project, that way I know I'm not going to accidently cut a small piece of a letter or item off. On big weeding projects, I've also added some inside the design so I'm not fighting & having to trim the vinyl waste while trying to weed. It's been a game changer for me. I also keep a few of the individual alcohol pads in my tray for quick wipe downs of those blades. I loved the felt trick, that was awesome!!! I've always rolled my mat when it had paper, I like your way better.!

Don't buy the smart vinyl just cut straps of full size vinyl with paper cutter or scissors. Yes for card making buy a card matt. You can cut card fronts with the card closed. If you don't want to use the card matt buy a Dollar Tree sticky matt and make cards that fold down from the top. I still use all of my older Provo Craft tools with my Cricut Maker like paper trimmers and punches and die cutters.

@Watts_Up_K8 Жыл бұрын
@krystaljah haha! Not slow at all. It's a HUGE learning curve!! Thank God for YT 😂 Basically, instead having to reload the mat with one colour at a time and do 4 separate cuts, 4 times; put a square of vinyl on each corner with each different colour that you want. Putting them in the corner means you don't have to fiddle with measurements etc. It's all done in one hit since you've told it to cut each heart all from the same mat. I keep having to remind myself it's not a printer & it doesn't know or care what I'm putting on the mat. It's purely only cutting lines. My materials only just arrived yesterday, so I'm ready to have a crack ❤ Happy creating ❤

Great tips! I just tried the foil trick as I was having trouble cutting . . . small letters out of vinyl. I tried using glitter HTV but that was an issue as well. Will try regular HTV. Warning for those who customize their settings: spent hours with Cricut Tech Support last week. When I customized my setting pressure and changed tools, it didnt work. I discovered this when I got tired of changing from Fine Point Blade to Rotary while cutting a lot of bonded cotton fabric. It worked okay until I closed Design Space and then opened it the next day. The rotary cutter didn't even cut the paper let alone the fabric. While it showed the proper tool and pressure in the list, when I clicked to edit, the pressure bar gauge was for the fine point blade. We tried a bunch of things, including uninstalling Design Space. Nothing fixed the glitch. I was able to get around it by creating a new material setting. But every time I closed and reopened DS, I had to recreate the tool again. Just a heads up. As of right now, it still isn't fixed.

I like to leave my vinyl long when I cut with the cricut. I leave the roll attached. Recently been cutting the excess off with an extra rotary cutter that I am not too precious about. Helps me not waste vinyl. Also really make sure that the mat is all the way pushed in before you let it start cutting. Take it out and reload if it didn't load properly the first time.

Instead of cutting the unused vinyl off, add a border around what you're cutting so that you can just peel off the margin around the cut item, leaving the backing in place and reducing things a step if you are doing bulk runs.
