I used to have these, I really miss them., They were one of the most musical speakers i'd ever owned. They didn't do everything perfectly, but they made music feel real. Would love another pair when I have space.

I find the looks of these tannoys intriguing. If I were to get a pair, which model(s) tend to be in the sweet spot as far as price vs performance? Current loudspeakers LR are Dynaudio Confidence C1. Thanks in advance!

@@scaf_007vs3 These days the Legacy range would be my bet. The Legacy Eatons sound like 90% of the old turnberry for a load less money than a new one. But if you want the prestige looks, the stirling is smaller and more domestically acceptable than the turnberry but pretty much as good.

I have the Tannoy Sterlings and I love them. I run them thru a luxman amp and they sound wonderful. Pieces of art.

As a proud owner of Dynaudio Confidence C1 platinum, I'm rather intrigued by these tannoy speakers. Love the vintage looks! If in the distant future I had the finances to upgrade, which model of tannoy would be comparable to a pair of Dynaudio Confidence 30? And if any comparison Is to be made, what would the tradeoffs be between the 2? Appreciation in advance, thank you!

How long can those amps play a clear sound before heat becomes an issue and the sound goes all a bit........tired? Could they play 12 hrs straight loud? Or is it not an issue?

Funny I used to be so obsessed with Mac gear, now I could care less if I ever own it because I think there is so much better gear for less money.
@buttonman18316 жыл бұрын
@Matt HDon't get me wrong, I am not saying Mac gear isn't great because it is, but you are paying a premium for a well deserved reputation in my opinion and Mac gear holds its value incredibly well. Now saying that, almost every competitor to Macs entry to mid level amps has better value competitors. I just think you can do better for a bit less money on these lower to mid grade segments. The ma 5200 Mac for example, I'm certain you can do better for that price; although admittedly, it is still a great amp.

@@buttonman1831 - I've heard that from several audiophiles but I've always liked the McIntosh sound (if there's such a thing). But, today we have soooooo many choices that it can be overwhelming at times. That is why determining what you really like and what you are trying to do with your system is crucial. Although I am new to tubes and just getting into them (recently brought a Musical Fidelity TriVista tube DAC and love that tube "sparkle"), I have what people would call a "warm" sounding vintage system. So, the "tube" sound naturally appeals to me. Very important to know what you like. Re: pricing - you're right, McIntosh has now established itself as a luxury lifestyle brand and their prices are not justified. But, no one in that segment's prices are justified from Tiffany's to Rolls Royce. McIntosh, especially on a world-wide basis, is clearly targeting people in Japan, China and DuBai with high disposable incomes. There are a lot of newly minted Millionaires in those countries these days. Don't get me wrong, I like their stuff. But, I could find a gently used Line Magnetic 219ia that is just as sweet sounding. It just depends on what you like. We do live in a market based economy and if McIntosh can demand their prices, more power to them. Great conversation, thank you for sharing.

And also the Tannoy D700s are my favorite speakers from the 90s for me the best speakers at any price it's a matter of taste but the Tannoys D700 speakers I would try minimum 10 to 20 amplifiers but very important to me to test them with Creek audio Exposure and Sugden
