Why dont you do it now? Do you still attend mass? If not, I highly recommed you find an FSSP parish and you will have found the true catholic church again. Litugy in latin, gregorian chant, incense, confession before each mass, true reverance and holiness and sublimity and worship of Our Lord. I did not know any of that as I grew up in the banal V2 church. As did all my cousins. Nearly every 1 of them has left the faith. I have about 70 first cousins, all with catholic parents and grandparents. Thanks to V2 they are gone. Robbed of their faith.

When I was a young mother. I knew no traditional lullibies so I sang "Tantum Ergo...." Benediction songs to my babies ! All my children are successful and strong. They fell asleep to my only recollected verses. I am no saint......I am just one who grew up loving the Catholic tradition.....perhaps naive, at times, but shaded by my ignorance. And, God was always there for me . Pray/

I was in a psyc ward for two weeks. I sang this song every single day I was there. I don't know Latin, but this song was easy to sing, and I was in my 40's singing this along with another guy that wanted to be a priest....(long story to that though). I saw miracles of patients getting better, the environment did not seem despondent but uplifting. One patient kept asking me what language and what song I was singing and I said: "it is the praises and adoration to Christ in the blessed sacrament." This beautiful faith and song helped me pull through dark times. Praise the Holy Good God. h

Hi Dennis, Read you comment while searching for the Tantum. Ergo here on KZbin. I was asked casually by the parish priest, father Manuel, if I would play some mood music during the Adoration after Thursday evening Mass on my Irish flute. I think he was very happily surprised when I suggested I play the Tantrum Ergo. We used to sing this beautiful tribute to Blessed Sacrament up until last year (it was not sung for two years with covid lockdowns at our Dominican church) when I left Ireland. I live in Morocco now where we have a Catholic church but with a small group of missionary Franciscans and our evening Mass is in French with the Vespers in the French language also. There is an English Mass on Sundays also, but I have adapted more to praying in French. God sure made life interesting. God bless to you and all your friends and family and thanks for you lifting comment.

Hi, MaryAnne! The translation that Marc has posted is a poetic translation, meant to enable the hymn to be sung in English. Here's our own literal translation: Therefore, let us venerate the great Sacrament, bowing low: and let the ancient law give way to a new rite. Let faith furnish assistance (stand as a substitute) for the deficiency of the senses. To Begetter and Begotten be praise and jubilation, also salvation, honor, strength and blessing. To the One proceeding from both [God and spirit] be equal praise. Amen, Alleluia. (translation by Donna Stewart)

Mr J you are right. Although not quite right. Usually it is sung under adoration of the exposed H. Sacrament before bedediction, both in the ordinary and extraordinary (=tridentine) rite (para-liturgy both properly speaking) of the Latin Church. But. Origin is the Hymn "Pange lingua" from liturgy for thursday in de Holy Week "in cena Domini", "At the Lords supper", "In translationem SS.mi Sacramenti" at the transferring of the most Holy Sacrament". If the HSacrament is on the due place, then the 2 last strophes are sung which form the "Tantum Ergo". From there it is come to the benediction Poet": S Thomas Aquinas. A whole rich liturgy (text) was conceived by S Thomas for the new feast of the H Sacrament. Out of that is f.i. the beautiful sequentia Lauda Sion. The wellknown much sung (often at the beginning of the exposition) Adoro Te stems also from his feather. Everything both in old AND "new"liturgy.

A BEAUTIFUL PRAYER FROM WAY OF DIVINE LOVE THAT JESUS ABSOLUTELY LOVES US TO SAY, AND THE MEANING THAT IT HAS TO HIM WHEN WE SAY IT. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME AND ANOTHER POWERFUL PRAY OUR LORD JESUS GAVE TO SR. JOSEFA FOR US ALL TO SAY FOR SOULS! GOD BLESS. As Josefa was saying some prayers; the Litany of the Sacred Heart and she had a little time left over to pray.. so she took the Invocations of the First Friday Novena, and when she arrived at the words; 'To Thy close union with the Heavenly Father I unite myself', Jesus suddenly appeared to her in radiant beauty. And she continues: "His raiment seem to be woven of gold, His Heart was a blazing furnace and from the wound in It came dazzling light. I renewed my vows and begged Him to pardon me for being so cold in His presence. It seemed to me though that it was not from want of love, because I love Him more than anything on Earth. . . . He listened to me and looked at me, and then said: "Do you know, Josefa, that that prayer is so pleasing to Me and is of such worth, that it far surpasses the most eloquent and sublime ones that could be offered Me. What is of greater value than My Hearts union with My Heavenly Father?. . . When souls say this prayer they penetrate, as it were, into My Heart, unite themselves to God, and this is the most supernatural act that can be done here below, for by it they begin to live a heavenly life which consists of nothing else than the perfect and intimate union of the creature with its God and Creator. " 'Continue your prayer, Josefa, for by it you adore, repair, merit and love. Yes, go on with that prayer, and I will continue the work of love.' " "Then she said I committed all my distresses to His Heart," she wrote, "and He replied: 'Be not disquieted. . . it is I Myself who am directing everything.' " ANOTHER PRAY SO POWERFUL, OUR LORD GAVE TO HER FOR US ALL TO SAY: "O God most holy and just . . . Father of all clemency and of infinite goodness. Thou who didst create man out of love and through love has made him heir to eternal blessings; if he has sinned against Thee through frailty and if he deserves chastisement, accept the merits of Thy Son who offers Himself to Thee as a Victim of expiation. By those divine merits, forgive sinful men, and deign to reinstate them as heirs of Heaven. O My Father, pity and mercy for souls."

SO BEAUTIFUL AND HEART-WARMING. . .(1923) THIS IS ON WHAT HE ENDURED AND SUFFERED FROM HIS OWN WORDS ON THE CRUCIFIXION. I HAVE NEVER READ ANYTHING LIKE THIS! JUST AMAZING! YOU WILL SEE.... God bless and love you and all you hold dear to your heart. Amen. THE CRUCIFIXION OF OUR LORD AS NARRATED TO SR. JOSEFA MENENDEZ FROM HIS OWN WORDS, IN WAY OF DIVINE LOVE. Pages: 397-399 Wednesday in HolyWeek The Crucifixion 28th March 1923 OUR LORD JESUS: "Be attentive, Angelic Spirits, and all ye who love Me." { Our Lord to Josefa } {...} Jesus: "We have nearly reached Calvary. The crowd is growing excited while I drag Myself along with the utmost difficulty, and soon worn out with fatigue, I fall for the third time. "By My first fall I obtained for sinners rooted in evil, the grace of conversion. . . . By My second fall, encouragement for those weak souls blinded by sadness and anxiety, so that rising up they might make a fresh start in the way of virtue. My third fall will help souls to repent in the supreme hour of death. "We have now reached the summit. Look at the officiousness { means: assertive of authority in an annoying domineering way, especially with regard to petty or trivial matters. Self-important } with which these hardened sinners surround Me . . . some seize hold of the Cross and lay it on the ground . . . others tear My garments from Me, reopening all My Wounds. . . My Blood flows afresh. . . . "Think, dear souls, of My shame in seeing Myself thus exposed to the gaze of the mob . . . what physical agony, what confusion for My soul. {just saw a white little angel flash on page here! } Think of the affliction of My Mother as she witnessed this terrible scene. . . . How she longs to take possession of the tunic now impregnated with My Blood. "The hour has come! The executioners stretch Me upon the Cross. They violently seize and extend My arms that My hands may reach the holes they have prepared in the wood. Every shock causes My thorn-crowned head to come into violent contact with the Cross . . . the thorns are driven deeper and deeper into it. Hear the first sound of the hammer that fixes My right hand . . . deep into the very earth it resounds. Listen again: they fasten My left hand. The very heavens tremble, and the Angels fall prostate at the sight. . . . "As for Me, I keep the deepest silence - not a murmur escapes My lips. "Having nailed My hands, they pull pitilessly at My feet; My wounds burst open afresh . . . the nerves are severed . . . the bones dislocated . . . the torture if unspeakable!. . . they pierce My feet and My Blood is poured forth upon the ground! "Stay a while and contemplate these pierced hands and feet . . . this body covered with wounds. . . . This head pierced through and through by cruel thorns, fouled with dirt, bathed in sweat and blood. "Wonder and marvel at My silence, patience, and resignation under such brutal treatment. Ask yourself who suffered? Who is the victim of such barbarity? It is JESUS CHRIST, the very Son of God, Maker of heaven and earth and of all things. . . . who causes the plants to grow and every living thing to prosper. . .. Who created man, and whose power sustains all things. . .. Behold Him unable to move, an object of scorn, despoiled of all. But soon what a multitude will follow Him, throwing away fortune, comfort, honor, family and homeland . . . everything that the world can give, to render Him honor and glory and the love that is His due. "Then while the soldiers inhumanly make the air ring with their blows . . . the earth trembles . . . there is silence in heaven, angelic spirits are prostrate in adoration. . . . GOD IS NAILED TO THE CROSS! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "Josefa, see thy Jesus extended on the Cross, without honor or liberty. He cannot stir hand or foot. . . . Nothing remains to Him. No one pities Him, none compassionate His suffering, but instead fresh mockeries, new insults, more and more pain are added to what He already endures. If you love Me truly what will you do to resemble Me? Will you refuse anything My love asks? . . . Will you spare any efforts to console Me? "And now, Josefa, prostrate to the ground and listen to My words: "May My will triumph in you. . . . "May My love consume you. . . . "May Your misery glorify Me. . . . { This is so precious } THIS NOW IS WHAT HE SHARED WITH JOSEFA WHEN SHE CALLED HIM FATHER: Page 329: Jesus to Josefa: "Do not be afraid," He said. "I am watching over you. . . . I am guiding you. . . and I love you." How can the Fatherhood of God be better expressed? And Josefa relates: "As He is so good," she wrote, "I called Him Father, and I tried to say how tenderly I love Him." "When you call Me Father," He replied, "It pleases Me, Josefa, and when you give Me that name I feel bound to take care of you. When here below a little child begins to talk and utters the sweet name of Father, with what joy parents press their child to their hearts, for the world holds no greater pleasure for them. If this is true of an earthly father and mother, how much truer of Me, for I am your Father, Mother, God, Creator, Savior and Bridegroom! . . . And none equals My Heart in loving kindness. "Yes, Josefa, when you feel oppressed and sad, hasten to call on your Father, and rest on His Heart. "If on account of your work you cannot throw yourself at My feet as you would like, only murmur the one word Father and I will help, sustain, guide, and comfort you. "Now go in peace to your rest. Another day is over and it will count for all eternity."

Tantum Ergo is found on Pg. 954 of the Liber usualis, but it is also verse 5 of the Pange Lingua found on pages 950 and 957--this woman is singing the alternate tone, found on pages 954 and 957, but the music in the video is that from page 952 (5th verse of Pange Lingua which begins on Pg. 950); it's a different setting of the chant for sure, but we can still appreciate the beauty of the music and her instrument.

That was the hymn Mokichi in Silence (2016) sang before he died when he was crucified on the coast of Southern Japan.

Every year, on Holy Thursday we have our bilingual service Spanish choir sings with instruments (modern) English Choir with organ in loft. When the Blessed Sacrament is transferred to the side alter the procession through the church accompanied by Spanish Choir, then after Host is placed in Tabernacle the Priest says Tantum, and we chant the Tantum Ergo unaccompanied then silence begins as people leave or keep watch over night awaiting the Passion of Santa Vierne, and the reenactment through our city streets. During lent our choir gets to sing the Kyrie, Gloria and Agnus Dei in Latin during Novus Order Masses. My beautiful German Catholic Church of 1849 was closed and sold by the Archdiocesan beurocrats, thus an end to Trideum Mass and the Sacred Music with Choir and Chant. So this is the best I have for now. Seems the Church continues to prefer Protestant style, especially evident in the condoning of Neocatechumens. October 2017 and the revelation of 3rd letter of Fatima May provide the Hope that will bring the Roman Catholic Church back to it's senses, or else!
