I would like to express my admiration for the harmony in the conversation and the sense of humor that Dr. have to the extent that I personally wished to be part of one of the classes she offers to her students. Humor combined with knowledge is something essential and helps to alleviate the harshness of some painful truths. Mazen is an excellent interlocutor and was very brilliant in asking questions and in his efforts to simplify the subject for non-specialists like myself. I found this exceptionally beneficial and believe that this podcast will serve as a scientific reference for those who want to start reading about a fundamental major like Orientalism, especially for us in the Middle East, and particularly for those studying social and human sciences , Super excited for what's to come and fabulous job 👏

Understanding "the other" is essential for knowing and understanding ourselves. By seeing how we differ from others, we grasp our own unique traits and values much better. This comparison helps us define who we are and appreciate our individuality. Interacting with those who are different from us highlights our own distinctiveness. In essence, recognizing what we are not helps us understand what and who we are.

We needed this podcast on 2004. I remember we were studying about Orientalism, Edward Said, Samuel Huntington and other stuff.

Insightful interview which left a lot of unanswered questions: 1. "what would be a real representation?" 2. "Is real representation at all possible?" 3. "who are we?" 4. "how are we?" If these questions remain unanswered as they have been for quite some time now, then am afraid any progress forward in dealing with Orientalist tropes, will always be an Orientalist trope.

The moment when he asked "Does it matter to those who suffer the way they are being represented?" 😢😢😢 This interview should be a manual for Orientalism in action!!!!!

Excellent interview. Learning from each other, between the East and the west, is always a great thing! But the bottom line is that the Muslims can only save themselves, for the world at the moment is not ruled by justice, but interests. Muslim countries urgently need to accept modern science and technology and strengthen themselves. Being able to own modern knowledge and technology of modernity, leaving philosophy and culture in modernity aside.

But you're assuming that modern philosophy and culture CAN be sperated from "modern knowledge" and "modern technology"

Lovely light hearted discussion about awfully serious issues. Admittedly,Orientalism still eludes me.I would find it very hard to define it it has probably for me becomes such a nebulous idea. That's why I am trying to listen and read as much as possible on this apparently very corrosive idea.

I think the interviewer could slightly reduce the interruptions with "yes, yes" and so on.

It's a podcast, they're supposed to have a conversation... it's not her lecture. I found his contributions to be quite well placed and complementary. I say the interviewer could slightly increase the interruptions, they were very good.
