One thing I noticed that majorly helped in the survival of the calf as it was being pursued by the lions is that the calf was active and always running behind its mother. I've seen other similar incidents in which the calf remains standing in one place while its mother running tries to fight off lions or hyenas, and therefore creates a huge distance between the calf and mother, which allows the predators to get close to the calf and bite and drag the calf away before the mother could run back to the calf, and while the mother attempts to get the predators off the calf, the mother accidentally hits the calf, injuring it, ultimately leading to the predators capturing the calf. Fortunately for this calf, it has high survival instincts.
