TAOFI KE MAU singing "Kua toka 'ae kolo hau"

The group 'Taofi Ke Mau' from New Caledonia singing the popular Uvean chant "Kua toka 'ae kolo hau" during the welcoming ceremony at the Auckland Museum on Friday 13th March 2020. Apologies for the video didn't capture the beginning of the song. Malo Taofi Ke Mau si'i hua malie!
The group came from New Caledonia to perform at the Pasifika Festival which was cancelled due to Covid-19. The group had only done one performance during their time in New Zealand and were stranded here during the level 4 national lockdown, but eventually returned to New Caledonia a month later.

Truly amazing,at first i thought it was a Niuean hymn cos of the similarity in the words. Even the groups name Taofi ke mau in Niuean means to hold tight or to treasure something dearly.

E, hako koe :-) fakaaue lahi, yes there are similarities with each other's languages which is the beauty of being Pasifika people - we can understand each other in some way just like our ancestors migrating to each other's islands.
