Few people have seen this new 12ga. slug - We test it!

We bring you along for some first tests of a new slug design featuring a finned lead slug with a steel ball in the nose. All the slugs were stable - no tumbling but some were not "laser precise". We see some clues why this may have been happening. We also recorded pretty low velocities which I thought were errors, and could be. Since these are self-defense slugs, having them flying at lower velocities might be a good option.

Know what I like about this show? After all these years and episodes, it hasn't become overly edited and flashy and just like all the trend chasers. As much as I love Kentucky Ballistics and Demolition Ranch, their openings tend to get the ol' Skip Finger for me. I poke until I see normal footage. This account doesn't do that at all and I dig that about them. Officer Greg only messed around for a second or two and then back to the shooting. Danny is too old to want to mess around for long and Jeff... sometimes I think he is just a disembodied voice. I can't recall ever seeing him and if I have it was so brief and rare it was as if it didn't happen at all.

Infact many of the companies that sell their slugs sell them with an intended purpose and with a description of what it does that makes it so special, but so many NEVER did it with high speed cameras and ballistics being tinkered to effect efficiency! But In real time you’d never know.. just because it hits constantly.. doesn’t mean it’s doing what it’s intended use was... it can be accurate but if they say the gas seal makes it more accurate and powerful, then we find out it completely blew up every time lol, been watching for 6-7 years I believe!

When he did stuff like the 5.7vs22 mag comparison or the hollow point performance tests it was interesting. Now it's just generic content. One of my biggest beefs is he has no issues crucifying Springfield for their actions but has no issues parading around other companies that did just as bad or worse. Then says there's a difference. He's a hypocrite at bare minimum.

I had stumbled across some of your videos a few times over the years, but never realized what a treasure this channel is until recently when I finally got into shotguns. I've watched little else on YT these past few weeks! My Grandfather had dozens of boxes of all brass 12 ga. buckshot shells marked US Marine Corps. From Vietnam War. I always wanted to try to reload them but my grandfather told me that you cant. 👍Could the results of less accuracy in a rifled barrel be due to a difference in the lands versus the fins on the projectile ? Conflicting angles of the fins against the lands might cause instability .

I’d think that the bow wave in front of the slug would nullify any aerodynamic action across the fins causing spin. I’m more convinced of the spin induced by the slanted fins in contact with the barrel wall.

As someone who use a shotgun as a hunting weapon these vids are a learning experience- and i agree u don't need rifling in a shotgun to be accurate just good quality ammo- my shotgun was a Mossberg model 500C 20gage with a 28" super modified choke chambered in 3" mag. I just put together 30 NEW DESIGN bullets for my .50 cal Hawken Renegade. They are simply spent brass from a 45 ACP. The primer end of the hull is the base/rear of the bullet. I drop a .415 steel bearing in, then drop in a .440 steel bearing. Then crimp with a 45 ACP die. For a striated pattern crimp, I drive an 11mm 12 point socket down over the ball end about 3/8… then drive out with a punch. I load these with a 1 1/4” greased patch. Excellent fit in the bore & only brass will contact the rifling. They are slightly front heavy, due to the bearing choices & the brass base of the bullet. The spent primer in the base will not move during firing because it is only seating it harder. They do come apart upon impact & are very damaging.

@@taofledermaus … Another version of this .50 cal bullet I’m working on is full of steel.177 BB’s or #7 steel shot, then crimp in a .440 steel bearing or .440 lead roundball. I’m pretty sure this same idea would apply to a .45 blackpowder rifle & using spent 9mm brass & smaller bearings or shot.
