Thank you! In the West, it’s so hard to find good content on Daoism. Even those who call themselves Daoists often just repeat the Dao De Jing and preach submission to the will of the heavens. It's very motivacional to finally see someone serious talking about cultivation I wish you and your channel much success.

It's also great for us to hear that you have interest in cultivation, because as you said, this aspect of Taoism is often neglected but plays a foundational role in Taoism. We're also planning to give a little intro about cultivation with more details in the following videos. Thank you for your support and hope to see you then : )

I watched all your videos last week. I just want to say how much I appreciate your content!! As a 1st gen American Chinese I have always witnessed such a gap between what my parents knew and taught, and what Western/English sources had to say about the topic. You actually go into symbolism and meaning that most Chinese I’ve ever met won’t explain, either bc they’re not specialized or just find it boring or obvious. Im sure many in my position can remember asking their parents or grandparents “well what does that mean?” and getting a response like “eh, it’s just a traditional thing.” You showcase a true understanding that rings true to me, and I deeply appreciate it, one of the only times I’ve ever seen it on youtube.

I vividly recall Laozi's writing that, "The Tao that can be spoken is not the true Tao." I'm not saying this to downplay your video and efforts, but because I think... when you think of "non-being" and "being", and them coming from Tao, you see that it's very hard to define something where you don't find a word for. "Everything and nothing"? "Super-paradox"? No matter what words we may use for these things, experiencing them is another thing. I've heard that Tai Chi (Taiji) can be an exercise with which you start experiencing these things, if you practice well and diligently. Who knows... everyone is different in some ways, and nobody can give you the experiences, but only point you in their direction. Like Bruce Lee said, "Don't focus on the finger pointing at the moon when you want to learn about the moon." Hehe.

Laozi also spoke of the Tao though, did he not? 😁This Bruce Lee quote was originally said by The Buddha in the Shurangama Sutra

I don’t wish to be critical as in general I appreciate this philosophy. However, when you say the Dao values life, and then use traditional Chinese medicine as an example, I think this raises some strong issues. Valuing all life means valuing all life - not just human life. The popularity of traditional Chinese medicine has almost bought about the extinction of animals like rhinos, elephants and pangolins because of the use of their horns or scales in traditional Chinese medicine. It’s 100% wrong to do this. Conservation and anti poaching units are now set up to stop the wholesale slaughter of these animals. I wonder what you think about this?
@devdigerattiАй бұрын
You clearly don't understand the Tao. LMAO @ "100% wrong"
@littlesapphire1Ай бұрын
@@devdigeratti I suppose saying 'you don't understand the Tao and LMAO' is one way of answering every question but it tells me that you have no real answer.
@usarmyveteran177Ай бұрын
TCM doesn’t involve rhino or elephant parts. Although many Chinese will try to promote the use of these animal parts, it has no function in TCM. Rhino and elephant parts are based largely on superstition and have no medical qualities or evidence in TCM.

Well presented, and a good introduction but you overemphasised western "Wokeism" to make Taoism fit in with current social theories-. furthermore, how do you know that women were supressed out side the realm of advanced Chinese culture for example? Cossack women or women from the ancient Celtic and Gothic tribes were not "suppressed". In addition, Confucious criticised Taoists for their eccentricity and lack of decorum and disregard for court protocol. He thought that to lead to a stable state, the ruler and his court officials should be approached correctly and bandits and tax dodgers killed or imprisoned! Moreover, where the ruler's martial rightness together with his army officers maintained the state's borders and trade traffic. If this was done correctly, good relations with other states could be established. Then, the states could prosper. But, I enjoyed your video and keep up your good work.
@skepticalcentral8795Ай бұрын
Sorry? I didn't hear her mention "Wokeism" once in the video, just gender equality and historical mistreatment of women.

The Tao that can be named and talked about is never the actual Tao. The words merely point to the wordless truth. 🫵🏽
