Sitting in the woods, a hot cup of coffee or tea, watching a bird roast on the spit. Heaven.
@LoreTunderinКүн бұрын
Looks delicious Mike! To keep it from drying out you can wrap the bird in aluminum foil once it's on the spit, it'll steam cook first and then you can remove the foil to finish it.

Thank you for a really enjoyable video displaying the pure essence of bushcraft camping. No cheats or shortcuts taken and using available materials (ie honeysuckle bark for tinder). Nice to see you recycling previous raised bed timber. Excellent narration with great tips and good food..

Brilliant stuff Mike! That moment of taking a step back and thinking about the order to work through things based on what needs to be achieved is too often massively overlooked. Shows the experience that's been built up!

There are 2 basic formations for a fire: log cabin and teepee. Almost every single YT channel I watch or subscribe to uses log cabin. Long before I ever found YT and watched how others built fires, I was a paid bonfire builder and by paid I mean my skills with building and maintaining large bonfires over hours got me invited a lot a great parties, hahaha. I have always used log cabin style. There are pros and cons to each style, as teepee style generally creates less smoke, so is great for stealth camping. But for heat, cooking, and longevity, IMO, log cabin is the only way to go. It's all about physics...

If you get some of canvas like that's used for the dump bag you have for foraging. And make a pouch for the frying pan when it's dirty, so it can go into or on the side of the backpack & keep things clean.

If you live in a place that doesn't have partridge available you can cook "Cornish" game hens (young chickens). They are easier to cook on a campfire than full sized chickens.

Thoroughly enjoyed today’s video! Missed Jaxx being with you, but sometimes it’s nice to just be alone in the woodland. Now, I’ll be looking for partridge or Cornish game hens to roast over my next fire pit, and will definitely be looking for better animal skins than what I have been using. Better quality skins come at a premium in the U.S. though.

Rain is less than perfect. Cold means more preparation and kit to carry although, sometimes, I love it more - dark skies filled with stars in the winter silence -... but, 'wind' stops play, for me. I must admit that I'm retired and have acquired 'gear,' over the decades. Building my own bed and rudimentary shelter is not for me... any more. But, I've seen the day. Youth is not always 'wasted' on the young. And those of us who didn't waste it, have seen more. The wind has well and truly stopped play, recently. I'm halfway through painting the kitchen cupboards, on a re-vamp mission.

Off the ground is key, and I used four long hair / fur hides, Two pairs (two hides joint together) one pair under me and one pair over me. You be warm due to the nature of reindeer hair/ fur hides. I camp that way in the worst weather.

Enjoyed the nice simple camp set up, Mike. It looks like it was a nice relaxing camp for you, too. I have to agree with you and nice fire in the woods, a hot cup of coffee and a bacon sarnie is hard to beat. I know you like your hot tent camping and have seen some other KZbinrs using the hori5 pellet stove and just wondered if you might get the chance to review one? I understand the benefits of it is that it's a biomass fuel stove and you can top up the hopper before bed and it should burn for about 8 hours without the need to top it up. Also, i think it's a duel fuel burner and that you can use logs as well. If you do get the chance to review one I would be interested in your opinion of it as a seasoned bushcrafter and professional. Anyway thanks for another awesome video.

Free bit of advise when spit roasting small game birds. Put them on the spit breast to breast and leaves the legs on the outside. This will help you cook the breasts to temp and avoid burning the little legs. =)

Good way to clean a frying pan when out in the sticks is to use a kitchen towel, burn it in the fire when finished.

@silicon-shaman4 күн бұрын
@@adecrowshaw7235 yeah, picking out a decent mid-tier knife can be daunting, there's so much to choose from. But if I've learned one thing over the years, it's that whenever you are considering a blade, always consider a Swedish blade. The Swedes know their blades. Just think of probably the most legendary axe brand ever - Gränsfors Bruk. Though I have to admit, the TA Outdoors axe looks dope as well.
