The 42nd episode of Tapasya throws light on SDN's customary make-up procedure demonstrated by Kuchipudi artiste and our very own expert-advisor for Āhārya, Smt. Shobha Korambil. Along side tips of the why, what and how of our make-up routine, Smt. Shobha demonstrates her derived methodology of face make-up that she has been implementing all these years.

Ma'am this is beautiful, please make a video for dark skinned dancers like me. I feel the way make up is done is SDN is so beautiful, you don't change the natural skin colour or try to make everyone look the same. I have observed your videos, it's so beautiful how everyone looks like themselves and like godesses in their own natural beautiful colour. I have not seen that anywhere else. This is just one of the many wonderful things that sets SDN apart. ❤️

Selection of pancake colour according to your skin tone is most important. For Bhairavi’s skin tone, she uses pancake no 28 or 29. For Harinie’s skin tone, no 27 and so on. Choose yours... rest making over is same for all... Shobha - Am I right ? 😊

Yes, Smt. Sheela Unnikrishnan, you are absolutely correct. Bhairavi's pancake no. 28 Harinie Jeevitha's 27 For skin tone darker than Bhairavi can use 29 and similarly, fairer to Harinie shall be 26. The pancake brand is mifi that costs around Rs. 130/- 🙏🏽

Where I lived and used to teach dance, the professional makeup man would make everyone look like clones. The arched eye brows would be drawn in the middle of the forehead. Everyone will hale apple-lips. Even the mothers can't recognize their own children. I would do the make up for all my students myself - enhancing their natural beauty. The hair-do and helping to get dressed would be done by the parents. The make up would be the last thing done before they go on stage. I did the natttuvaangam and also sang the songs - since I am a qualified music teacher as well. Literally it was a one-woman-show! Watching these episodes make me travel down the memory lane after several years. Nostalgia! :)

How do you get the eyetex to go on so smooth? Maybe because I live in the US and it's colder here at times I can never get it to go on smooth like that. Here we use the liquid eyeliner but the brush for that is too thin that it's hard to sometimes get that smooth look and fill easily

Ma'm, what sponge do you use while applying pan cake? The sponge that comes with mifi is very harsh on my skin. Also, Is there any role for foundation? Can we mix it with pan cake? I have dark skin, but none of the pan cakes suit my skin completely.

Namasthe. We use a separate sponge which is available for Rs. 30/- in the stores. Pancake is applied with water, using the sponge. Wet the sponge in water, squeeze the dripping water away and take pancake with the wet sponge and apply it on the skin. We DO NOT use any foundation generally. This seems to be good and you may also agree seeing our videos. If you are of Bhairavi, Rajadarshini or Mrinalini's skin tone, number 28 or 29 should be suitable.🙏🏽

I think they use traditional Kajal (కాటిక) if you go for an old beauty shop, they sell a small box in green box (not eyetex) it's different. That kajal is more dry with which you can avoid smudges. Normal eyetex kajal can get smudged due to the sweat

Ma'am i had a 1 year break from bharatanatyam. Now when i started practising again i feel so much pain and im not able to sit in aramandalam for even 6 or 7 seconds. Im really worried right now.
