Is this test method for testing adhesion to metal substrates only? Or is it also used on plastics and wood composites and such?
@SpektrochemResearchLaboratory2 жыл бұрын
You can use cross-cut test method for many hard and rigid substrates, not only metal.

Where do you buy the tape required for the standard? I'm from Chile and we don't have local provider for this tape.

Hello, Here you go. Distributor of TQC instruments (Industrial Physics) in Chile www.ceainstrumentos.cl/ Please ask abou tape to cross-cut adhesion test.

Thanks for the video. Could you mention the exact type of the multi-edge cutting knives you are using? Thank you!

Thank you for your comment. We use TQC Sheen knifes, both ASTM (straight edge) and ISO (wheel). Please find on TQC Sheen website

ASTM 3359 VS ASTM D4541: which test method is a better for testing exterior painting? Which is a more accurate measurement for the pull out strength?
@SpektrochemResearchLaboratory Жыл бұрын
ASTM D4541 pull-off test (for wood or steel substrates) and ASTM D7234 (concrete pull-off test) will always be more reliable. Cross-cut tests (tape adhesion) are just a simple checking test

how many trials that will give you more accurate result?
@SpektrochemResearchLaboratory2 жыл бұрын
Generally it depends on the test area and the number of panels you have. It's different to how you prepare panels in the laboratory, different to how you have to perform a test on an element whose surface is limited, e.g. on a construction site or on panels after SST. It also depends on whether you have a good result, an evidently bad result or a moderate failure of the cross-cuts. If the result is clearly bad (100% failure) or clearly good (0% failure), it is enough to do 2-3 repetitions. If you have an intermediate result, you should do 5-8, and sometimes even 10 repetitions for adequate repeatability and precision.

Can I apply this metohd for flexible film?
@SpektrochemResearchLaboratory Жыл бұрын
Generally the method is to use it on a substrate that needs to be fairly stiff, but you'll have to try it to be sure.

All equipment is ASTM compliant. It's important to use standardized types of cutters.
