@@TappPlumbingthis video was VERY helpful to me EXCEPT that 1.) the Allen key required for my set screw was a larger size (cold side). The hot side's set screw appears to be jimmied because my Allen key cannot get any grip. Is it time to call the plumber?
@TappPlumbing6 ай бұрын
@@UnderDog1911 That depends on the time verses money equation. If you can’t get the screws out it is gonna turn a little more time consuming and you need to have new handles also . Either the screws will have to be drilled out or the handles will have to be sawed off.

+1 on the positive comments. Excellent instruction that worked perfectly ... turning a DIY project (with the normal 'trial and error' risk) or a $$ plumber bill (if you're not the DIY type) into a flawless 10-15 minute fix, all in. When you call Delta for a replacement cartridge be sure to request seats and springs too. Delta will send a new cartridge(s) for free under lifetime warranty but I had to run to HD for the seats and springs because I didn't know to ask for them.

Take a pic of the stem before/after taking it out. 3. Home depot lists the part as a "stem" and not a cartridge, just so people dont get confused. There is part RP255513 and 255513-3. Not sure what the difference is. They are the same skew# at HD. My handle felt a lot loser and easier to move after fixing it. Works great, no leaks. Just felt different Hope this helps everyone!

Note to future self: Do not throw away the fixture box…or at the very least write down the model number, goofball! (Speaking to myself there.) The faucet was installed in a new bathroom in 2017 so I was fairly confident the valve and seat/spring model numbers at the store would work. They did.

Hi, great job on the video. Mine is leaking around the handle and I think you said to replace the cartridge. Is the o-ring on the cartridge the problem and can I just replace it? Are there other seals in the cartridge that cause problems too?
@andrewawakened6284 жыл бұрын
Trying to follow your instruction and having a problem. The right hand side (hot water) cartridge came out just as easily as when you did it, but when I tried the left hand side (cold water) I had 2 problems. First, there was a lot of calcium buildup on the handle, but I eventually managed to work it loose and get it off. But now the cartridge will not come off - it comes up about half an inch but then won't come up any further - it feels like there is something holding it down from underneath. I tried rotating it all around and pulling in each new position but it just won't come loose - any suggestions? EDIT: Was able to get it off finally...seems the key was to get frustrated enough that I became willing to use enough force that I was risking breaking it! Seems the calcium buildup was holding it down somehow - I can't see how, but something was doing it!

Thanks. This is great, but how do you remove the retaining nut when it's stuck? Mine is 22 years old and probably a little corroded. I can't find any other flat surface to hold with a wrench, either above or below the cabinet.
@TappPlumbing11 ай бұрын
You might try holding the valve body from underneath with a basin wrench. I hope you a person that can help you. This would be close to impossible to do by yourself. Not sure exactly how corroded your parts are but sometimes if you are very unlucky those nuts can crack and the inside of the valve body is in such bad shape the repair procedure won’t work. This usually happens on bad well water. Good luck , keep us posted please.

Is it always the seat/spring or cartridge assembly? Is it ever in the faucet part where the drop is occuring? I ask because I usually have dealt with seat/spring cartridge issue and the drop comes out at handle. I was wondering if there is an additional area to check.
@TappPlumbing6 ай бұрын
This is a fantastic question! When it comes to plumbing there is nothing that is an always. It usually the cartridge if it is coming out from under the handle but certainly possible there is some wearing in the valve body. Most of the time this happens if the faucet is old or the system is on well water. Keep us posted of you can make time please!!
@MacSoundSolutions Жыл бұрын
Just did the install and all went well, thanks to your clear notes and saying which cartridge to buy. One note is the lever stopper comes in the package with the cartridge and you need to install it (a little white plastic piece before you screw down the cartridge with the outer ring, this keeps the levers from turning more than a quarter turn if you want that instead of a full half turn. I also wonder if just new springs and seats would stop the leak as apposed to buying new cartridges. My cartridges did not come with the spring and seats, Lowe’s sells them separately called Dankco repair kit for Delta scald guard 80465. 😅 so awesome to do this myself! Thanks a ton!

It sounds like a small piece of debris is in the faucet or cartridge. Carefully look at the cartridge and if you can ,turn on the water WITHOUT the cartridge in the faucet to clean the debris out of the ports in the brass. BE CAREFUL when doing this . You have to be gentle when turning the water on . It doesn’t take much pressure to do this and it makes a huge mess . Have towels ready! I am a little confused on your question about the o ring and stem . If you bought a new factory delta cartridge they come completely assembled so you shouldn’t have do anything to them. Good luck and keep me posted when you get it figured out please.

Do we have to replace the cartridge? I saw someone just replace the seats and springs, and it works.
@TappPlumbing Жыл бұрын
You do not have to replace the cartridge if it is just dripping from the spout.

Thank you for the informative video, I’ve been putting off this job for almost two years due to fear! I was able to complete the task, HOWEVER, the spring was not a tapered and went all the way down!! I could not get it out!! 😢 I used the old tapered spring and new seat. Did I invite new trouble?
@TappPlumbing2 жыл бұрын
Oh no , it is possible there could be new trouble. Sometimes you can taper down a shop vac nozzle to suck the water and possible the spring out. It is not good to leave the spring in there, but if it is not dripping then we will keep our fingers crossed. Good Luck!!

Hey! I’m trying to fix my tub leak. If you don’t tighten the retaining nut enough, will it cause it to still drip? I hand tightened it but still have a slight drip (definitely better in comparison to the old seat and cartridge it had though)
@TappPlumbing2 ай бұрын
It is possible as the retaining nut pushes the cartridge on down on to the seats and springs. Do not over tighten. Check your water pressure first.( kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKOqi4CupdWShck ) If it is over 80 psi then that could be a problem as well. The valve body may be scared and allowing to drip. If this is the case then the whole valve will need replacing. Good luck and keep us posted!

@@TappPlumbing THANK YOU SO MUCH! It’s an old 70s trailer, so during the winter my father in law had went ahead and changed out the whole valve body including some shutoff valves (all the pipes had busted) but I found a wrench and did two quarter turns on the retaining nut and it fixed it!

Great video! But how did you get that retaining nut to loosen so easily? Mine keeps wanting to turn the whole base and all....any ideas? My faucet is a delta dryden widespread model...i sprayed vinegar and water on it and now wd40? Should i go underneath and try to hold it somehow from turning? Im confused....many thanks
@TappPlumbingАй бұрын
You are on the right track! Try and tighten the nuts underneath. You would have a better chance if you purchase a basin wrench for this . Good luck and keep us posted if you have time please.
@benw6554Ай бұрын
@TappPlumbing thx for the reply. I got it off by spraying wd40 on nut and sitting overnight. Now waiting on part from delta. They sent wrong one first time. Ha

Thank you so much for this informative video. I have exactly the same faucet and I am planning to replace it. Mine is very rusty from under sink and I didn't not have the right tool to remove them from the bottom. I am wondering if I can remove the faucet from the top. Thank you!
@TappPlumbing10 ай бұрын
If you take all of the trim off the top and discover a thin nut touching the counter top then yes. You will remove that nut and the valve will drop down . Be careful not to scratch your counter top , it is very easy to do. I hope you do not end up having to cut the valves and trim into pieces with a dremel or multi tool to remove it . That task is aggravating to say the least. Keep us posted if you can please?

Thanks for the instructions! I was able to take apart my leaking Delta bathroom sink faucet by following them. But there's no seat and spring under the cartridge. Is that normal? The faucets were installed by the previous owners of the house in 2010 or thereabouts. There's no obvious place for them to sit. It's just a hole straight down. My handles also didn't have any set screws. Are they important?
@TappPlumbing Жыл бұрын
I am so sorry for the delayed response!!! Somehow I just now saw this. The answer to your question is yes, the seats and springs are important, it will not stop running or dripping without them. The set screws are fairly important, without them the handles will seem loose. The faucet can still function though without leaking or dripping.
