Taraji P Henson CONFRONTS Oprah After She Loses Jobs | Officially Blackballed
According to credible sources, the executive producers of The Color Purple had an emergency conference call with Oprah Winfrey and blamed Oprah and Taraji for The Color Purple flopping.
Reportedly, the film went direct to DVD while still in theatres because the producers are now trying to get back as much money as they can after the flop, and they feel like Oprah should have sat Taraji down and gotten her in line before she started airing her issues while promoting the film.
Allegedly, in the conversation they had, the execs said that Taraji would be blackballed because she is the reason why the film essentially stalled and cost them millions of dollars. But guess what?! Taraji is opening up, AGAIN!

Tell that to the folks and organizations, mostly black that have received over $400 million in grants from the Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation. The fact that out of the movies and shows she's produced only Monique has the issue. Taraji's issue actually is with Warner Bros Studio. They write the check, not Oprah.

People who are jumping on Taraji' s band wagon about Operah, it's wrong. Why didn't she go after the directors too?. I'm sure she was given a contract, so her agents and managers need to be blamed too. You do not hear the other actors going off the way she did. 'Humility goes a long way' . And PLEASE do not say she's an accomplished actor.

Ha??? What? How is the movie negative? I’m generally not a fan of musicals. Some I consider tolerable, not this one, but beyond the genre, I’m sure you’re referring more so to the content. If the content of the original or the musical version offends you or you think the term “negative” is most appropriate to describe it, your judgment is overtly shallow and lacks any depth or complexity.

Agreed. I absolutely love the original film. It is my favorite. It didn't need a remake. Was I glad to hear that they were doing another? I was pleasantly optimistic... because I thought it would be an updated version of the "original." But when I realized it would be a "reimagined" "musical," my enthusiasm kinda came to a halt. That said, I still support them. But it's not the same. Now, I do think that TPH's discussions on pay differences may have affected the film's marketing... because, how could it not. BUT, it didn't cause a $40mil flop (as of date they have made $60 of the $100mil). If she had THAT type of power, then she is in the wrong business and need to be looking at doing things behind the scenes. I think they have to consider the many other factors that play a role in it, particularly that the film was a musical and that a only particular niche of people would go out to see it. But that's just my opinion. I'm sure there is so much more to it than that.

Me and my girls went to see The Color Purple (the entire cast did an amazing job by the way)💜💜💜!!! However I have to be honest, the entire time I was watching it, I couldn't stop thinking about how Taraji was crying and so upset about her pay. Yes, I do feel that Taraji's interview may of had a domino effect on the success of the film. They say timing is everything. I love taraji as but when I initially saw the interview my gut said, this wasn't going to end well. Damn, damn damn!!!

She definitely didn't do this movie any justice by speaking so negative during the press junket of this beautiful movie. The purpose of a press Junket is to promote your project. So many people worked so hard on this movie and she pretty much was a downer. There was also early award chatter for Fantasia and Danielle so it also took focus off of that. This is a time where two beautiful black actresses should have really been able to enjoy their moment . All the actors should have been able to enjoy the release of this movie but Taraji and her crying the blues over shadowed the movie it self. She should have waited until after the release and award season was over to talk about her issues.

It’s also unfortunate that these things weren’t handled initially. She shouldn’t have had to speak out because at this point our black actresses should be getting paid right. Especially if our own people are attached. We hold Oprah at a high regard, she needs to be accountable. And also you’re promoting a movie that’s going to make all this money and you’re being underpaid? We have to do better. All of these ladies have been in the industry and made a name for themselves. They deserve respect walking in. Shouldn’t have to ask for it. We have to do better.

In many instances, the word "blackballed" is just actions that have consequences. If I were a producer/director watching how Taraji handled that press tour, I'd be uneasy hiring her. I don't have to have anyone say "Don't hire her". People keep thinking it's personal. She's made herself a liability. Look at how the numbers tanked after the first weekend. She made it a point to make every interview a grievance. That's not blackballing....that's self-sabotaging.

The "I'm so tired ... Blah, blah, blah " part of speech is also part of Gloria (America Ferrara) monologue in BARBIE" That makes it look intentional. Secondly, She could have written a book about the issues of industry, then added her latest experience AFTER the Awards a success and review in a last chapter and publish it. Go on Talk shows and tell your story respectfully. Talk about plight of all black actresses with similar experiences and then end book on hopeful idea of what an be done to solve problem Instead, She burned the movie into the ground costing of 10s of millions or even 100Million of lost income and pointed fingers directly at individuals than back peddled a couple of times. If she thought it was hard to pay to sustain her career then she's really going to find out the hard way if she tries to sue or get sued for defamation. The reality is, Taraji speaking out against the mistreatment didn't harm the film, the mistreatment itself did. Blaming Taraji is like a criminal blaming the prosecutor for going to jail for a crime. The DA isn't the reason you're doing 5 to 10, your crime is. If there had been no mistreatment of Taraji and the others, there would've been nothing for them to talk about. I totally agree that she went about this the wrong way. And yes, it is because of her. Who talks shit on a promo tour??!!!. Did she think about how her comments would affect the other actors? What did her agent negotiate on her contract? I read the book and saw the movie. It was awesome in my opinion. It reflects more of the book than the original movie. Also, this was based on the mostly on the musical on Broadway. I've seen so many comments where folks are saying that they're not going to see "that crap". But the same people will watch total crap that benefits nobody black and give it praise. This is mainly due to Taraji's comments. Its sad that our world is stil so full of sheep. So sick of hearing Monique now add Taraji to the list. From the beginning, I said I did not see her as Shug. Maybe I was right....

Some of you are sounding real ignorant. This movie was a Warner Bro's production not an Oprah Winfrey Production. Oprah was one of four producers of this movie which included Steven Spielberg, Quincy Jones and Scott Sanders. Where is the hate energy for them? Oprah did not negotiate their contracts or make them signed their contracts. She was not the one responsible for paying them, Warner Bros were the one who were responsible for paying the actors that AGREED to work on this film. Taraji , Fantasia and Danielle clearly said that when they did have issues they were able to call on Oprah who then made phones calls to help with their issues and things got taken care of. Oprah is not Warner Bros for some of you that really are clueless.

Taraji smh I understand you have grievances you want to air out, but wrong place and time sis. Your job was to promote the movie that you and your fellow cast mates worked so hard for. Instead you made it all about you and all the bad things. The movie then went straight to streaming. Y’all don’t understand, this goes way above Oprah. This is Warner Brothers now, she caused them a lot of money and they ain’t gonna forget it.
@patriciajones9987

Exactly. When we get out of our feelings and admit the truth using the promotion of the movie time to air although legitimate complaints and the magnitude there was no way that the Play would be supported by many people who felt they were angry with Oprah and saw this as an Oprah project, a Black-on-Black issue. The truth of the matter is that there were more people than Oprah involved. I personally did not like Oprah's real personality when interacting with her at my place of employment through the years, but as professionals with a lot at stake on the movie or during the movie Taraji knows that her handling of this was terrible timing. She kind of went for it without regard to the back lash for herself, the other cast members or the Play and the work that she and the cast put into making it. Many people who decided not to support the Play no doubt did it out of anger at Oprah and/or the situation which Taraji overshadowed the movie without thinking of the impact. There was no way that some of her fans were going to support the Play after her tears after her words, especially her tears which were valid- but wrong timing. She unwittingly sabotaged herself and the other two who were airing their room situation may encounter back lash as seen as infringing on the inability to recoup the money invested into the movie. Bye everyone have a good Saturday.

It’s never a right or wrong time, when you’re feeling hurt and disrespected on your craft. If you are worried about getting that money, then you shut up and eat it. She chose not to do that. Also, anyone in the cast, if saying, what about my me, is not concerned with bs that’s going on. Now could Taraji have given a head-up, possibly. But we also can’t say she planned this. We weren’t there. It’s bad enough it’s expected of certain white individuals in the/ or any industry to practice this lowballing. But your own kind sort of speak, tends to sting a little more. Just saying. My heart goes out to Taraji and others who feel under appreciated.

Mrs.Henson didn't set out to hurt Oprah or the industry she set out to help black women get equal pay let's NOT lose sight of the truth, she ( Mrs.Henson ) could have done both promote the movie and fight for equal pay for black women in the industry separately just not in the same interviews because let's be clear Oprah has helped a lot of people no-matter what people say now this is a very sad situation
