Paddy, you can listen to such recitations of the Qur'an live in almost any mosque in Birmingham during Ramadan..feel free to pop in and sit at the back to listen (or of course join the prayer if you're Muslim!). I recommend the Salafi Masjid. Wright Street, Small Heath. 9.35pm onwards.

Here in Pakistan as well, they focus more on speed than on qirat. I think this is because 90 percent of them do not understand what they are reciting , Arabic not being their native tongue
