Yup, without their ghost a guardian loses their connection to the light. Same happened to Osiris when Sagira died

Pretty much. He can still hold the light but the ghosts are the ones who act as the link between the Guardians and their power/the Traveler. Without a ghost they can longer receive power. He's in the same boat as Osiris now.
