I appreciate you explaining the bigger picture! As a black woman I've been target 3x this week. I see so much hate for target, but people still driving their teslas, using meta platforms, and purchasing products and services from places who never had DEI initiatives in the first place. A lot of black people think DEI = anti black and it's not just about us.

I wish everyone understood DEI. I was raised that color was not a thing. I think my biggest thing with DEI is I want the person with the most knowledge to have the job. I also don’t want people with years of experience to be laid off because of DEI.

I respect your comments about becoming stakeholders in the companies we frequent. However, many of us don't have the knowledge to navigate that process or the financial means to invest. Even before the DEI controversy, I enjoyed watching your videos because they saved me money. I got the "OMG that's so cute!" feelings out of the way and by the time I went into the store, the novelty of the products wore off so I didn't impulse buy the cute stuff. I'm personally boycotting Target and am "not buying where I'm not respected" so that Target can feel the impact of alienating our communities. It really rubbed me the wrong way that they felt the need to voice the end of their DEI policies a day after the current president annouced his stance. However, I'll still watch your videos because they scratch the Target itch without me spending a dime there. After being a loyal Target shopper for 15+ years, its difficult to go cold turkey so you're videos have been helpful. My hope is that Target see's a significant impact on their financial statements this quarter and re-evaluates the decision to alienate a large portion of their customer base.

My goal is to make change. The associate Kym that I spoke of in the video is black. I have made so many friends in the Targets I’ve shopped in through the years that are among different minority and marginalized groups. I even leave some of our conversations in the videos. Who makes a stand for them!? Who makes real change for them? Who supports them? I want to force a change in there environment and this is the way I choose to do so. Not everything is so black and white (no pun). Target is one of many who removed DEI including our military and soon our schools. Do we tell the teachers to quiet, take our kids out of school and leave the US or do we find creative ways to make/force change? There’s more than one way to do so and I support them all. As long as the end goal is achieved.

It’s not about skin color, gender, or sexual orientation when it comes to retail jobs (or other industries, for that matter)…it’s about who has the character and grit to work hard.
