Pretty cool that you still get excited inspite of how many fish you have caught over the years.

Cheers RCNC I just love fishing from the sand, this is where it all began for me. It excites me that since fishing Muriwai from the late 70's it still produces today....

A nice haul, there are a lot of them around right now. I got 20 from my kayak of the East Coast Bays in Auckland last week, they seem to like Kahawai there too, when they are on the bite they just keep coming, I could have caught another 20, the swell is a little too big though. Keep the clips coming.

Cheers LM Yep they will be showing up in big numbers off the bays - haven't fished for them off the bay for awhile, might have to head back out for a harvest at my bays carrot patch... Tight lines

Cool video mate. You seem to have a lot of luck at muriwai, I suppose that's the magic of the place, I'll have to have a long surf casting weekend up there in the summer 🤙
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing4 жыл бұрын
Cheers fc Yep it's a magical place that has a part of my sole - I grew up fishing it with my dad back in the late 70's so have fished it off and on over the years but have started to do a lot more fishing up there past couple years. It's a great place to go for a weekend over the summer - cook ya fresh catch and you can fish and move along it over the tides.... Tight lines

Hi YK Cheers for the kind words. This model is a GPS one so you set it in the direction you want it to go, then once launched it tracks that line until it stops then soaks for how long you want it to. Tight lines

What size wheels have you got on the Prado? Does is have a lift kit? Looks good without the running boards too
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing3 жыл бұрын
Hi iw This was Stevo's old truck and has since got a new one - the Prado was only the 2.7 petrol so was a little under powered on the sand - think it had a lift kit but unsure what the size were on the wheels :-) Tight lines

Awesome guys, how long do you set the timer and how long do you leave the Kontiki soaking before you haul it in.
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing3 жыл бұрын
Hi S It depends on where we are and if the fish are in big numbers - most times we will set it for a 20-25min run and soak for 30-45mins but when fish are in close obviously set it for a 15min run and a 20-30min soak. West coast in summer soak for 15-20mins Tight lines

Kia ora bro. What rig where you using on your surfcaster
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing3 жыл бұрын
Hi SR I'm using a running rig Because I use braid I actually use 2 traces to allow my sinker to run up and down mono not the braid - kzbin.info/www/bejne/apzKgKaEh6aJo7s tight lines

@@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing just wondering why you don't like the sinker running on your braid 🤔
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing3 жыл бұрын
@@smoothrider7521 not to sure of the friction the metal would do to the braid? may try a hard ring on a split-ring to the wire of the breakaway one time. Haven't really tried it so just use a fluoro leader.
@smoothrider75213 жыл бұрын
@@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing I attach the sinker to a snap swivel. But yes. I also wonder if the the metal is doing any damage. I well try your rig. Have also thought about using a shock leader.

Love it when a plan comes together. Do those traces have no floats on them? Was that intentional targeting the gurnard?
@Reel-Kiwi-Fishing3 жыл бұрын
Cheers JP Yep most have the floats on them, gurnard have no problem coming up off the floor for there food. We catch a lot of them in the boat on flasher rigs. The plan was to try for gurnard just outside the breakers - I catch them on the surfcaster so knew they were in there close - time of year also is when the area fills up with them. Tight lines
