I’m glad you mentioned eye dominance. I’m also left eye dominant and it makes moving left and throwing right a bit tricky.

I always use the reflection of the pins to see my targeting line. Wherever you stand on the lane will change that reflection. Almost like using a torch

I used arrows, then dots, then arrows and back to dots, then dots to the arrows. Finally, I stopped that. Now I only look at my break point way down lane. Just so much easier for me to roll it to my break point. I can be a little in, or a little out.. but it's like rolling into a swimming pool instead of worrying so much about one board near the arrows.

The bit about the torch appearing to be at 18 when at the foul line and at 15.5 when at the start of the approach didn't make sense to me until the camera moved to the foul line. But I'm still a little confused here. So does that mean I should change my target as I approach the foul line? Doesn't sound right, does it? Thanks for the tip about not necessarily looking at the arrows (instead looking closer or farther down the lane, depending on vision). I'll try that.

Thanks AA… you really cleared something up with the eye dominance. Now I know why I’m right of target most times. I gotta go work on it

Thank you for the targeting tips, Andrew! I was able to change to looking at the dots today which I think helps me because I have a lot of spine tilt in my game so it's hard to look at the arrows. But I drew the line, and I was able to clean up 3 more spares than I usually would have per game, and I had several 200+ games tonight thanks to that. I was able to hit my mark more consistently and easily. I'm definitely going to have to get used to it because I've been more accustomed to the arrows in the past, but it does seem to work better. I just need to adjust to it, and I'll be repeating shots like it's nothing!

For me in my home center on lane 2 there is a dark board that looks like it has a curved cut in it and when I used my jackal ghost or any reactive ball I would get the ball in the curve cut and it would line up with a dead flush shot and 90% of the time it works and I use the arrows with urethane and the foul line while using plastic when the lanes are dry enough ( which is 90% percent of the time as well on a 2 shift league). But this video now has me thinking on how to improve my target making. Thank you for the video .

This just made me realize I never really look at a steady target? Maybe the first set of small dots but honestly I need to start making this a priority in general!

Yeah oum pinky looking at the head pin😂🫣 i played softball and was pitcher and short stop so pitching I always looked at the glove for the most part so rollong a bowling ball from left to right is hard

Thanks, Andrew, for mentioning break point targeting! It really resonates since I focus on my break point too. I feel it gives me more margin for error at the arrows, as even if I miss the arrow, I can still hit my down-lane target. So many videos focus only on targeting the arrows or dots. Could you share the pros/cons of using the break point as the primary target? And do you ever switch from break point to arrows for targeting-if so, when and why?
@TerryPullen
@TerryPullen Ай бұрын
I primarily use the breakpoint but sometimes when I am struggling I will shift and use the arrows. Different targeting will change the way you throw the ball.

When I started bowling patterns I had to stop looking at just arrows and see the whole line to my breakpoint with the laydown point. That is how I learned where to place my feet. For a while I was fixated at my breakpoint as the focal point but I would never read the ball motion in the front and mids and kept fighting to get it to stay online. Now I’m trying to figure out my adjustments quickly instead of staying with a ball or line that don’t work so I can have at least a decent score. This game is challenging

Also right handed and left eye dominant. I always need to look 1-2 boards right of my target to roll over the target when playing in. If I am playing up the 5 board, then I can look right at my intended target because my body is straight with the lane. I learned to shoot skeet left handed for success. Same with archery. Somehow I am able to adjust for bowling!

Do you happen to have a video up that shows how to establish a breakpoint? Primarily on the house shot? I’d love to try this targeting system, but my biggest issue is always figuring out where to get the ball each week in league

Hi Andrew, when u mention that when we approach the foul line, the torch line should remain the same. Which means to say that we should not always be drifting to the left 5 boards (which i was taught), but rather to walk in that straight line as the torch (for the torch line to stay at the same arrow)?

I watched this video which I found very helpful, however I was a bit confused about my options for targeting - Is it always looking at the ten pin? Or looking at the whole trajectory from arrows to ten pin or does this all change if you’re a left hander?

When shooting the 10 pin or 7 pin as a right hander, how far down lane should I be looking for my primary target? My tendency is to miss the 7 pin to the left and the 10 pin misses are both right and left. I feel as though the misses are more due to targeting than mechanics.

Can you clarify the part of the video where you mention Jillian. Are you saying as you move forward the line position changes? If the line goes through the 13 board for example at the arrows, then does it mean stand 7 boards left of 13, on 20, and line your body up to the pin you are targeting but then put your eyes on 13, and try to hit 13?

Question on Targeting. So when I look at say 3rd arrow I am basically looking at it from the middle of my chest which is not where the ball is. If i walk straight at the 3rd arrow then I actually have to pull the ball to hit mark since ball is about 5 to 7 boards right of the middle of my chest. Should i be looking and walking at say 20 to 22 to hit 15?

As a low rev senior, targeting 15 and looking right at the 10 pin is exactly how I shoot the 10 pin spare. I could never throw a strike on that line.

Eye Dominance, if you don't know extend your arms out and make a triangle with your hands and focus on an object, close one eye at a time and the eye you see the object with one eye closed in the triangle is your Dominant Eye.
