When I got to NYS from Central America, directly to the Boogie Down Bronx, there was a lot of discrimination against FBAs. My parents made sure we learned their history, instrumental in appreciating FBAs causes. Puerto Rican elders were very racists and were not involved in many of the things FBA youths were creating, including DJ’ying in the streets, schools space properties etcetera

No disrespect to any Latinos/Caribbeans, but HipHop comes from BlackAmerican History & Culture. This documentary illustrates that point beautifully, it connects the GreatBlackMigration, BlackPowerMovements, GreatBlackMigration, HarlemRenaissance, Funk, Rap, House, GoGo, Soul, R&B, Jazz & Blues, LindyHop, Bebop, TapDancing, Dozens, JiveTalking as precursors and influencers of the genre. The film identifies and celebrates FBA pioneers from NYC, but also identifies Jubilaires, PiGMeat, RudyRayMoore, WattsProohets, LastPoets, JamesBrown, Funkadelic as Forefathers as well. It meticulously combines the Historical, Cultural & Musical aspects of FBA culture to define HipHop and explains in detail its Southern Foundation. Absolutely beautiful, this film should be used in all HBCU Music & History classes as the undisputed definition of HipHop✌🏿🖤👊🏿
