In this video, I embark on a hike near Willisville, Ontario, covering 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) on the Heaven's Gate Trail to find a lake I've been eager to visit. Along the way, I'll share an interesting connection to James Bond. Lois Maxwell, the Canadian-born actress best known for her role as Miss Moneypenny in the James Bond franchise, has a surprising link to this area. Maxwell's career spanned many years, from Canadian radio to Hollywood, including her role in the 1962 film 'Dr. No' and thirteen other Bond movies.
Maxwell also starred in the 1969 and 1970 Canadian television series "Adventures in Rainbow Country," filmed in the very wilderness I am exploring today. I've heard from locals, including a viewer who grew up here, that Maxwell loved this region so much she bought land and built a cottage nearby. Although she passed away in 2007, her legacy and connection to this beautiful area live on.
Returning to my hike, the lake was shallower than expected but stunning, with the white quartzite of the La Cloche Mountains and Lake Huron as a backdrop. Thank you for watching, and I hope you enjoyed the video.

Miss Moneypenny! Great to hear about the James Bond connection to this area and more about Lois Maxwell! We used to watch the James Bond movies back in the day- her character was always a fun part, and what a great name. I hadn't known anything about the rest of her career- thanks! Beautiful day for exploring these woods and hiking on the open rocks... Micky sure loved being out. The tarn is really pretty- so wonderful to see the wider area and Lake Huron on the horizon. Thanks! It's neat for me to think Ms. Moneypenny and I lived just down the highway from one another. I think Vancouver Island was at least partially covered by glaciers in at least one of the 4 ice-ages so almost any lake up on a mountain might be considered a tarn since a glacier probably carved out a depression in the rock at some point. But I'm no geologist, I just play one on KZbin. Cheers.
