The 2s indicate a choice to pursue an interest established by the ace. Cups represent the emotional life so the two of cups represent a tentative beginning in sharing intimate ideas. The Lovers card represents this process in completion.

The Two of Cups shows a young man and woman, exchanging cups and pledging their love for one another. Above them floats the Caduceus of Hermes - a winged staff with two snakes wrapped around it - the ancient symbol of commerce, trade, and exchange. At the top of the caduceus is a lion’s head, signifying passion and fire energy and suggesting that there may be a lot of fiery, sexual energy between these two people.

You are wrong. The 2 of cups is an authentic and positive connection and relationship. It is deep as you can see the cundalini there. It is a card of solidifying and long lasting relationship based on love, understanding, and it's good. The lovers is more about the needs of the self. The major arcana are NOT about bigger things, are about aspects of the self.

Two of cups has more to do with physical life on earth. That's why Yaldaboath rules over the union. In the lover's card, Raphael presides over the union. Yes, they are clothed and the cloting represents intentions or ritual movements that they must undertake for the union to be possible. One example is the feet; the man initiates by stepping forward, but her shoes are red which indicates her reciprocal action; none of these gestures are necessary and might even be redundant within the higher card which represents a higher awareness. These figures also appear in the devil card and that would be the clepoth or darkest most manifestation. They're naked there as well, and it illustrates the duality. It is still kinda honest though, because their chains aren't binding. They hang loosely and could easily be cast off. It truly is a voluntary situation. In this case it is Cronos devouring the lover's children, which they willingly feed him. This represents many things in our society. It can even represent cycles of domestic hardship or generational trauma in the family. It's a brutal, blunt, honest card and most people really don't want to see it just the same way the lover's would rather wear the chains for show.
