All I can say is wow... Looks like it is the year where everything comes together for Tarpon. Incredible Brass, Woodwinds, Colorguard and Percussion. I was very entertained and cannot wait to see what this fantastic band delivers in Indy. In my opinion... Definitely a contender.

Wow! Great show!!! People need to stop the hate. I am a Broken Arrow Pride Alum and we should all be proud of all the bands for the hard work they put in. LOVE this show and the music.

I'm a little late saying this but thank the god you guys won. I was at finals and just blown away by what you guys can do and how moving a show can be. (I was as high as you could go at Lucas oil) I could follow every thing you guys did unlike some other shows i watched that night.

those who dislike the band have a right to your opinion and that's just fine. i'm related to someone in the band and i have NEVER seen a group of high school students work as hard as them. when i watch them i forget that they are just "kids". they worked their tails off to get to this level. its not an easy task and they should be looked at in a positive light. and as for the money part, thats a bunch of nonsense. how does tarpon get the funds? again hard work doing fundraising events at both raymond james field and at the trop during the baseball season. both of which i have worked very hard to help them out without making a dime for myself. this is NOT a rich band. they are a band that has a lot of family and community support. so why dont we all just focus on the music and achievements of not only them but all the bands out there. CONGRATS TARPON. so proud of you all.

Their music is so hard and flawless, until I heard this show I definitely thought broken arrow should have won but now I've changed my mind. Tarpon springs clearly deserved it.

They're going to give Broken Arrow and Avon (who I thought was going to be unbeatable) a run for their money. I also heard Marion Catholic may be a top 5 contender. This year is going to be insane.

Incredible talent, work ethic, instruction and design. I am curious as to whether they use wireless mics on the woodwind section as a whole in addition to the soloists.
@geebillbreaks204110 жыл бұрын
Only soloists get mics that would be way too much if we put a mic on everyone
@k.coleman848310 жыл бұрын
OK. I only ask because I personally know of programs in Kentucky that mic up to 24 woodwind players and the director will sit in the bleachers and adjust levels live on their I-pad during the show. It's a philosophical debate: do you write the drill to allow for natural woodwind sound or do you write crazy drill and rely on electronics to get the sound up front?

Eh, I don't know about that. Their brass and woodwind lines are very clean and Tarpon practically shits GE, but I felt some of their body was relatively sloppy and I'm really getting tired of the soundtracks...at least they're marching /and/ playing this year :P
@MrBochawa10 жыл бұрын
Alpha Centauri Saw them last night in Atlanta. They've cleaned up a LOT since this performance. Few little ticks, but overall they sound and look fantastic. This is the best Tarpon has ever been. SO much energy and the show was communicated incredibly well last night..

I completely agree. Their finals performance was phenomenal. Had me on the edge of my seat up until the closer, when my computer crashed -.- (I was watching the live stream)

@Alpha.Centauri10 жыл бұрын
Luify E By soundtracks I meant the vocals/sounds Tarpon always has in their show, but this year they actually fit extremely well. I was blown away by their finals performance. They absolutely deserved the eagle. This was by far my favorite Tarpon show ever, blew Paranormal out of the water. If you were talking about Tarpon's musical selection, it was all original music by Frank Sullivan and Kevin Ford.

Incorporating dci type visuals and forms in the show. A little bit better tuning at the beginning for the brass. And slow down the 16th notes in the woodwind feature, make it cleaner. Fantastic show overall for Tarpon.

Congratulations on winning! But this show is not very good and it's way too standard. I think the judges in Indiana are pathetic and uneducated. I was hoping that Marian Catholic would win but now i'm thinking twice.
@theoboegoddess10 жыл бұрын
....standard? There is nothing standard about this show. It is extremely memorable. You obviously have never watched many other high school marching band shows. And the judges are actually extremely well educated; unless you can prove that you have degrees from top music conservatories and direct a top band, you're a hypocrite. You can "hope" all you want and be biased all you want but Tarpon Springs' marching technique, general effect, visuals, difficulty of music, musicality and sound production are top notch. Nearly flawless. And the other bands just didn't beat that standard. The only one that was even close was Broken Arrow. Sorry if this sounds offensive to you but to insult the judges is ridiculous and uncalled for. They have years of experience judging, teaching, conducting... you name it. So don't go insulting the judges.
@TheEddie120910 жыл бұрын
Sounds like your biased toward Tarpon Springs! Anyways, I do not know that much about music but a few people I know from Marian Catholic said that Tarpons show wasn't that hard compared to Broken Arrow (and I think they said Carmel too). What I mean about "Standard" is that the show they performed can easily relate to a certain topic, whereas a show like i guess Broken Arrow was hard to figure out what it was about but it was very touching. Plus the fact that Disney funded them was really unfair, they should have been more imaginative about their own props. The fact that they lost .15 compared to the broken arrow band was very lucky for them. I haven't seen broken arrow in person, but their shows are extremely unique. I don't care much for their band personally!
@jenniferpryor671610 жыл бұрын
And universality in a show is a bad thing? Just because a show has a relatable, graspable topic doesn't mean it's bad. If anything, it adds to the general effect. In a show like Broken Arrow's, regardless of the great quality of it, the fact that it's so difficult to understand only takes away from GE. Tarpon Springs put out one of the most memorable, even revolutionary shows I've seen in years. I was so happy for them and their victory!

Gimmicks, narration, pre-recorded music... But where are the hits that raise the hair on my arms and blow me out of my socks? After watching DCI and BOA this year, I just feel like we're losing the basics. That said, congrats on winning nationals. The students are obviously fantastic performers and work very hard. It's the show concept I'm not keen on.

I'm gonna enjoy watching Carmel, Broken Arrow, and Avon walk all over them in Indy. Their playing, marching, and conceited attitudes are covered by the fact that they're popular and have so much money that they can buy themselves competition victories.

You obviously met people from a different school. Regardless of what people say about money, I highly doubt that anyone at Tarpon Springs would be caught dead being snobbish or dickish or what have you. I will say that unfortunately for you, I highly doubt that Tarpon band members would resort to such petty tactics. I know who you are, and you are from Cape Fear. I would suggest you stop making everyone look bad because you're jealous.
