This was, by far, one of the most comprehensive step-by-step walk-throughs for this I've ever seen. Most people start at the "un-bolt the carb" step, when many really need to know how to take the shroud off! GREAT vid!!!!

4 year old MTD/Craftsman snowchucker dead right before the upcoming big nor-Easter. It run if I shot ether in it so had to be gas flow! Tank seemed full of white particles (Boogers?) so I cleaned tank/gas, and these do not come with fuel filters. Took out just the main jet and got the wire from a garbage tie into it and a Snot popped right out! Put her together and it started right up! Taryl, you rock!

I've always used dish washing soap to. For really nasty Carbs I take them apart and I have an old metal pan I put them in with the soapy water and boil them on the stove. I had an old Farmall tractor carb that I soaked for a week in carb cleaner and wouldn't come clean and a mechanic at work told me to boil it in the soapy water and it works better than chemicals. Thanks for the video Taryl!

I rebuild carbs for old British cars. Lots of original SU HIF/HS models. They're sometimes pretty nasty and require a good hot soak. I simply went to the local thrift store and bought a couple of old crock pots to use. One of them I fill with a combination of "Green" cleaner and water, the other just water. Disassemble, "cook" for anywhere from a couple of hours to a day in the cleaner(stirring occasionally), then into the clean water for a bit and finish with compressed air to dry. I've done the same to some snowmobile carbs(Mikuni) and unlike harsh chemicals, you don't worry about dissolving some of the "soft" seals and gaskets.

Hey Taryl ! Here's one you may NOT know the answer to : i just changed over a Briggs mower engine from a plastic body Mountfield mower onto an aluminium body ( the plasic mower and engine was taken from a recycling depot ) The metal bushing which held the blade and self propelled pulley was in little bits when i took out the blade bolt off, also one of the engine bolts holes which held the engine on the deck one was broken off, so i reckon this machine had a major abuse problem ! Now the engine DID run for a few seconds before i took it out of the wrecked deck BUT the thing runs in reverse ! It runs the wrong way - so even when pulling the start cord it unscrews the blade bolt !! What the heck can the problem be ? Thanks for your attention. ( love your vids - liked and subbed )

Thanks for the video! I just got my neighbour's derelict 2010 MTD going again by following your process. A nice gift that can start giving back now, just before a forecast of snow. There were a few small differences in the cover & choke attachment, but the important parts were spot on. The dish soap and scrubby saved me much stink with solvent. Now where do I find the video on setting the idle, without taking the covers off again...

I had a problem with a 22 horsepower Briggs V twin 2 bbl carburetor, I took it apart cleaned it, but couldn't get gas to go through the inlet tube. I took the carburetor off, and could blow air and carb cleaner through both ways, so I figured the fuel pump was bad. Then I tried to blow through a new piece of fuel line through the inlet tube but couldn't. I drilled the inlet seat about. 001 and then it worked. I am at a loss as to why the fuel wouldn't go through, but now it does. I haven't put the new fuel pump on yet but it runs fine. I am going to replace the fuel pump when I get it ( had to order it)

@RK-kn1ud2 жыл бұрын
I pulled mine tonight and they crumbled when they came out. I searched for hours for an o-ring that would fit it and got lucky...I bought a metric o-ring kit from Harbor Freight about 8 years ago which had a useable (but not exactly the same) o-ring in it. I think it was 4mm ID but that's all I remember. I could feel them grip when I pressed the tube back in the hole, so they'll probably be fine.

@james17957 жыл бұрын
Tim. It's not a motor. It's an engine. It's an internal combustion engine, thus----ENGINE. Motors are powered by electricity. Yet now,....... if you are a NASCAR driver, you have earned the right to call an engine a motor. Hey Tim, I hope you don't mind, I just have to harass someone every once in a while. Anyway.....it sounds to me like you still may have trash in your gas tank or a bad diaphragm or diaphragm spring. But by all means, I don't know much of a hoot about small engine repair. Good luck.
@rverro84787 жыл бұрын
Surging and running on choke means poor gas delivery (lean). If you tap on it, it might be that the float is sticking and doesn't drop down to fill the bowl. Have you tried using high test gas ? Small engines are not design to run on regular gas. Regular gas contain a high percentage of ethanol and its really nasty for your carb , especially within one season of lay away. If you put away your mower with regular gas then, I suggest to flush the whole system and take the carb apart and clean it. It sucks but I had to rebuilt one of my carb twice within a year because the person who borrowed my machine didn't use high test gas. Signs of rust at the bottom of the bowl meant that water was present in the fuel. Hope it helps.
@huxmetalworks73717 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the help I will try this I will let you know how it goes thanks again

here one: years ago a guy had a boat no one could start. Had spark fuel timing compression all perfect. I worked at a outboard motor dealer and other shops gave up. The owner was an elderly man who took good care of boat and old Evinrude outboard. After spending the day almost giving up I took my old needle type volt meter and noticed the needle swang backwards..... Incredibly the owner actually charged his batter in reverse!!! Negative was now positive and motor cranked yet wouldn't start. I replaced the battery no charge and ran perfectly. lol
@andrea48095 жыл бұрын
This is the biggest crock of shit I have ever heard. Are you saying the motor was turning over backwards? if thats the case and the battery was charged in reverse why not just swap the battery cables.
