[TAS Former World Record] Driver 2 in

Outdated. Awful run compared to my latest. Look on my newest video.
OLD description
19 minutes ahead of the RTA record!
There are many improvements and optimizations to be made, but this genre is very hard to optimize. I do manage not to take any head on collision unless I have to. Damage is still taken for aggression and those ramming missions.
A couple of disappointing things about the run:
Gunmen mission in rio: I beat him so fast that I don't get to the mountain where the game tells you to knock him off of.
Final mission: You can't see the helicopter crash on the ground as it just goes through the walls to "prevent us from seeing it" damn devs..
Overall, this run was nice. I may attempt it again with optimizing perfect angles and better ramming missions.

It was bad ass if you ignore the story and all. They have great brand name cars, mostly classics. Driving feels and looks good. It's definitely different, the drifting. Drifting wasn't really a thing in all the past drivers. Even Stuntman and Destruction Derby didn't seem to do drifting. That game is awesome though.

Nice run man use to play this game alot when I was a kid both the first and second this one was always my favorite tho my brother got me hooked on it lol was finally able to beat them both back in the day have to say that on the mission Chase The Gun Man at 2:12:01 never seen it done that fast took me forever to beat that mission kept driving off that mountain lol

Wow this is truly an impressive feat, considering there's barely any Driver 2 TASes out there. By the way has there ever been a fix for that horrendous framerate and does it affect speedruns? Regardless of the mistakes made, it's good to see you invested your time and effort into making this, and I thank you for it.

Burrito Eater thanks sir, as for the frame rate issue, I don't know if it has been fixed, frame rate issues does affect tasing this game, as it may desync more often. But I've had no problems with desyncs in the making of this run, and strangely I've restarted the run, and had desync problems just trying to get out of Chicago..

mistamontiel00 it's very unoptimized still. I didn't put work into this run as it's just a test run. I have a new tas of disc 1 that beats this runs time by over 5 minutes.

The strategy used there isnt even human as its very precise. This is a tas where anything goes. You could be the best player in the world, but you cant predict rng without tools. I actually really suck at this game as a human.

SuperFrizzio I could, but it would be rejected. There's still plenty of room for improvement, like perfect angles and faster routes, which are visible, and tasvideos has strict rules on those. This run was a just a test, where I didn't put work into. So it would be rejected for suboptimal play. Thankfully, tasvideos doesn't have a mandate for frame perfect runs.

Christopher McLaren tas means tool assisted speedrun. Tools used were frame advance, slow downs, and save states to overcome human reflexes. For more info, visit tasvideos.org speedrun.com does not accept tases.

Ahhh ok I understand, does sorting frame rate issues help save you some time when the game isn't always slowing down etc every time? And sorry could you explain to me what exactly is a save state? Does it allow you to reset at any point if you fuck up?

Christopher McLaren slow downs are just done to give me more time to react. You can't see any of these being used in the video. As for save states, yeah it lets you fix mistakes. The rerecord count is pretty low for a game like this. It's just a test run. You can use the tasvideos glossary page to understand more.

Tool assisted speedrun. Like frame advance, slow motion and save states are used to overcome human limitations. The idea is not to make gameplay easier, but to demonstrate what would be difficult for a human being to perform. This tas is poorly made and I have a more optimized one on my account. ggj1987 to be honest, I don’t know. These 3d driving games are difficult to optimize and this tas is pretty outdated. I’m currently in the works of a newer tas that is far more faster than this. A wip is on my channel. Currently I’m been having financial issues and have to use free WiFi to answer questions and such. I can’t upload any videos for now.

fastrun14 Ah ok, the reason I asked is because I remember playing with a friend and we were both stuck on one of the draw bridges but he managed to get over it using the burnout button and I didn't. That's why I thought that maybe it was a quicker way to accelerate

Not denying all the time you soent making it! Respect for you have gone through the whole game! I myself started to TAS it but... well ps1 TAS are difficult. Nonetheless I was expecting better from a TAS, you dont try the best angles for one or to get the best speed in all time. Also you can work on collison to destroy the trucks and cars quicker. You are right. Perfect angles would be a lot nice and faster. The ramming missions could have been done better as well. About perfect angles, I had that in mind in the first mission, then got a little reckless after that.. All I cared about was deathless and no head on collision unless I have to. I may consider redoing this with what you said above. As for ramming missions, all I gotta do is get in front of the car and balance it. Not easy, but more than half of the ramming missions used that strategy.

+fastrun14 Actually I'm impressed by the fact there are only 2500'ish rerecords!!! Unfortunately Driver2 is not a fun TAS to make, just the story mode without any serious glitches and the very same missions over and over. Maybe one day we'll break the game and wrong warp to the helicopter, who knows
