In 4-1, are the Spinys being despawned due to Lakitu being too high or is Mario running so fast they're falling behind the screen? Also, I thought the occasional backsliding was to eat time to not trigger fireworks, but it's also done in 8-4, so now I don't know. Is it actually accelerating?

I’m pretty sure the 4-1 spinies are going offscreen too quickly to be seen due to Mario’s running speed. The backsliding is a result of pressing left+right at the same time, which does result in slightly faster acceleration

It is a ~4:50.5 by RTA timing. Tas timing starts from power on, as opposed to RTA timing from first movement

Actually, this tas is ~4:50.5 by RTA timing. I will say that kosmic’s tas is an excellent demonstration for what a 4:52 run will look like
