After the events of Mega Man Xtreme 2, X gets teleported to the bootleg side of cyberspace.

It actually has an original story! Luke, a policeman on the side of justice, goes to resist against Dr. Mean's cybernetic army. He gets fatally wounded by a shot through the heart, but before he dies, the government reveals a secret project that transforms people into cyborgs. Luke is transformed into a cyborg (the titular Zook Hero) to fight Dr. Mean's army, and then the game starts.

I mean, this is freaking me out kinda. Illegal shitty Chinese bootlegs are a dime a dozen and tend to just be weird stuff that requires little thought to make like a sprite / graphical hack of an existing game or "porting" games to other systems haphazardly (DKC or SF2 to NES, for example) -- just simply stealing someone else's work, plain and simple. But this...? What is this? It's obviously a complete ripoff of Megaman X but -- with an apparently original story? Completely original graphics that aren't *completely* terrible? Completely original music (even if it uses the MMV soundfont, but hey, dude, I'm totally fine with that) that actually sounds *pretty damn good*?? Oroginal bosses?? Original weapons (even if they have ridiculous, amazing names)? It's an utter ripoff, sure , but ... it actually seems like a pretty good ripoff? That I kinda really wanna play? And let's be honest, officially-licensed games like Krion conquest have done this even worse, so...

This game is pretty freaking great, too. Probably up there with Mega Man X as one of my favorite games of all time. I actually own(ed) a copy of this game that I got FOREVER ago. I can tell you now, this game is fun as hell, and hard as balls. I might actually still have the copy lying around somewhere. Never did beat the game though. Not kidding when I said this game is just hard as balls.
