In Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic and Tails continue to thwart the plans of Dr. Robotnik, this time on the Floating Island that is guarded by Knuckles the Echidna.
In this run, you'll see the Floating Island like never before, as Evil_3D ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/E... ), TheYogWog ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/T... ), and kaan55 ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/k... ) use every trick in Sonic's and Tails's arsenal to collect as many rings as possible. The routing for this goal is more about efficiently moving between groups of rings than efficiently moving to the end of the stage, and is incredibly complex.
This run starts from a clear-game savestate with all of the Chaos Emeralds and Super Emeralds collected, so that collecting giant rings will award Sonic and Tails a 50-ring bonus instead of taking them to a Blue Sphere bonus stage. We normally do not accept save-anchored movies; more details can be found in the authors' comments. ( tasvideos.org/6240S )
An atlas encode ( • [WIP] [TAS] Sega Atlas... ) is also available, which shows the characters' positions on a zoomed-out level map, which might make it easier to follow the action.

What I don't like about TAS videos, especially categories like Ring Attack and such, is that there's so much planning, organizing and retrying to produce such an outstanding, time-consuming video, and all we can do is like, subscribe and share. None of these do such videos and their creators the justice they deserve imo.

Keep in mind a guy had to actually go through the process of coding and indicating what the TAS should do, which does involve prior planning and a lot of knwolage about the game's mechanics and how to abuse them, even if it involves inhumanly possible inputs or reaction times. Worth nothing is how the first revision of Sonic 2 allows you to exceed that limit by breaking a ring monitor with 990+ rings, albeit causing the hundreds digit to display invalid sprites (e.g. a colon, with 1,000 rings showing up as :000 rings). There are so many quirky edge cases across the Sonic games like that, which is a testament to how technically ahead of their time they were.

In Angel Island Act 2, you can’t actually go through Knuckles’s route as you can’t go all the way to the bottom of his route without dying, so using different tricks, Tails glitches into Knuckles’s route many times to get as many rings as possible.

The lives counter is going beyond 99. And going to a new zone resets it to 99 (otherwise it would eventually reach 255, then goto 0 lives). This can be done in normal play, but I've only gotten like +12 past 99 lives....
