It's a physical counter attack. After you 'learned' a move and block it normally, you gain access to easy one button Guard Cancels. All Anubis characters can do that and it's very useful, but the counter itself is a risky special to use.

@@Saiyan_Swagger I hadn't considered that. So I checked the wiki, which says "Anubis is able to control whoever draws it, no matter how strong their willpower is." But DIO was the one who freed Anubis from some museum, so he definitely knew about its power and wouldn't have deliberately drawn it. But then again, Anubis seemed pretty confident that he could've controlled the impaled cow before the sword fell out again, and at one point Polnareff says that it controls anyone who touches it unsheathed. So I guess all he had to do was hit DIO once and swap over? Eh, maybe that'd be too OP for his liking, and the epilogue does say that he travels in search of stronger opponents. But wow, if that's all true, Anubis is a better stand than I thought.
