Been playing this game for the first time, I always knew and heard undertale was inspired by it but this is insane! It’s basically a direct homage which I guess makes sense but I never heard it phrased like that I always heard “oh Toby fox made an earthbound fan game so we know he’s an eastbound fan snd theres influence there” but it’s like past influence. I’m not even saying there’s anything wrong but it just blows my mind a bit like how much the format of the battle system and layout of the text boxes and even the like world view

yeah, toby fox actually started out in the EarthBound modding community for the years preceding Undertale. I believe I had corresponded with him in forums around 2012 which was pretty cool when Undertale blew up and I found out who made it :D

PK Beam (what the starmen use) is reflected by the Franklin Badge, and the RNG manipulation is used on the Fight stat (called Guts in MOTHER 2) to make Ninten survive with 1 HP

RNG manipulation makes sure the Starmen always use PK Beam, which is conveniently the one that’s reflectable by the Franklin Badge. Also, Giygas’ attacks are sorta PSI, in the sense that defense doesn’t change anything and it always does ~30 damage.

@@xxEzraBxxxNess would be like 2 or 3 years old during EB : Beginnings . Because there is a 10 or a 11 year gap between EB : B and EB 1 : The war against Giygas . EB : B takes place in year 1988 , and then EB 1 takes place in years 1998 or 1999 , some would even say 2000 for some reason .
