I can guess Yumeji is female. She disguised oneself as a man. Because Japanese feudalism was male chauvinism. Yumeji is the child of Kurokouchi Sakon, the mentor of Ukyo Tachibana. Her/him skills with the sword art is far greater than Ukyo's. But for some unknown reason, at 15 years old, Yumeji was kicked out from her/him fathers house. Yumeji was picked up by Gaoh and gave her/him a new reason to live. Now Yumeji serves under Gaoh and will do anything for him. In the end, Yumeji is defeated by Ukyo and begged for death to avert disgrace. Ukyo, however, only cuts off a part of Yumeji's ponytail and ordered Yumeji to return home. Yumeji instead becomes a nun. One year after Gaoh's defeat, Yumeji killed Rasetsumaru. Yumeji's father and the rest of his disciples were later slain by Zankuro Minazuki.

Read in multiple places that this character was meant to be trannesjinder. Apparently, in 1768 when the character waa born, trannesjinderism was practiced in Japan. Did not know that or that Yumeji is trannes. This is one of the best playable characters in the whole series! Now I want nothing to with this character at all! @@kalonjirivers8902 yeah that's what I really want. Samurai Shodown 4 is my most favourite game in the series cause slash&bust system. But I'm ok with separate slash & bust into 2 different charaters too xD. Like I really like Sogetsu, in ss6, they made his bust mode became a new charater Suija(basically his sword). I'm ok with it too, both are hot ^^
