Sonic Classic Heroes is a ROM hack for the Sega Mega Drive/ Genesis that is the result of a collaboration between flamewing and ColinC10, combining their respective hacks Sonic 2 Heroes and Sonic 1 and 2. It therefore is a single ROM that offers the entire campaigns of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, either alone or together; and enables the player to play as many characters such as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. The hack is named due to the ability to control a team of characters, which is reminiscent of the more recent 3D game Sonic Heroes.
The hack is built on Sonic 2’s engine, which has been enhanced by both flamewing and ColinC10 to have new features. These include: multiple gameplay elements from Sonic 3 & Knuckles, such as element shields and character-specific abilities; the ability to save progress, scores, etc. to SRAM (something rarely implemented in Sonic 2, with the other notable example being Esrael’s Sonic 2 Delta); various bug-fixes and improvements to the mechanics of the original games; and many more features, both implemented and planned.

This is the most enjoyable tool-assisted run I've seen for a 2D Sonic game. I know it isn't optimised for time, but I like that the tool-assist actually plays the game, rather than exploiting glitches to skip levels. Collecting all the emeralds was fun too, and I like that you made a complete run of the game without getting hurt once. And you can add me to the list of people who had no idea this game existed. I really want to play it now, because it feels like everything the first two Sonic games should have been, if that makes sense. Sonic in the Green Hill Zone has a spin-dash! And the shield boxes from Sonic 3 are all there too. They even added little parachutes to the animals in the Sky Chase zone. Oh my God, I love this game so much. And Amy piloting the Tornado at the end - genius!

Sonic hyper state: He's able to breathe underwater, and able to teleport the direction he's facing and while at it he's causes a shockwave that kills badniks on screen. Tails hyper state: able to fly higher, and he attracts animals that can transform as well and can attack badniks for him Knuckles hyper state: able to glide and climb faster, when he use he's fist to climb an wall it causes and earthquake

sorry im late, but you're right, these games are hard! the reason it looks so easy here is because this is a tool-assisted speedrun. that means the person playing is able to play the game frame by frame, as well as look inside the memory, in order to make inputs exactly when they need to in order to get the fastest time possible. it's really cool stuff!

That's true of Sonic & Tails in the original Sonic 2 as well, but the third character has the same delay as Tails does in Sonic 2. So if you can deal with Sonic 2's special stages normally, this won't be any harder.

TAS stands for tool assisted speedrun. People use them to show perfect speed runs of video games, using tricks that are humanly impossible to perform. People use their knowledge of the game to program the TAS frame-by-frame, submitting these programmed inputs to the controller. In other words, TAS is a speedrun robot, not a real speed runner.
